The FAG 6317 -2Z-C3 deep-groove ball bearing, measuring 85 x 180 x 41 mm, with cover plates on both sides and a C3 clearance, offers reliable protection and is suitable for high speeds.
The FAG 6317 -2Z-C3 deep groove ball bearing is a single-row radial ball bearing made from standard rolling-element steel (100Cr6) for a wide range of industrial applications. With an inner diameter of 85 mm, an outer diameter of 180 mm and a width of 41 mm, the component primarily accommodates radial loads as well as moderate axial forces. The integrated sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements with minimal vibration. Thanks to the gap covers on both sides, the lubricant filling inside the bearing remains protected, which reduces maintenance requirements during operation.
Design engineers and maintenance personnel primarily use this design for rotating shafts operating at higher speeds and under thermal loads. The design, which has no groove or flange on the outer ring, allows for direct installation in cylindrical housing bores to a standard fit. As the rolling bearing is designed for operating temperatures ranging from -30 to +120 degrees, it is suitable for demanding thermal operating conditions. The design is intended for continuous operation and ensures smooth running.
The C3 designation indicates a slightly increased radial bearing clearance compared with the standard version. This increased clearance compensates for operational thermal expansion of the shaft or housing and prevents the components from becoming stressed in the case of tight fits. The sheet metal cover plates on both sides (2Z) act as a non-contact gap seal. This prevents any additional friction losses, which facilitates high rotational speeds. At the same time, the covers effectively shield the interior from coarse dirt particles and dust.
With an internal diameter of 85 mm, an external diameter of 180 mm and a width of 41 mm, the bearing has standard cylindrical dimensions. The outer ring is manufactured without a retaining groove or flange, which facilitates direct installation in standardised housing seats.
C3 indicates a slightly increased radial clearance compared with the standard range. This design is recommended where there are temperature differences between the inner and outer rings, or where tight fits result in a slight reduction in radial clearance after press-fitting.
Cover plates on both sides, made from profiled sheet steel, keep the grease within the bearing chamber and repel coarse dirt particles. As they operate without contact, no additional frictional heat is generated, ensuring that the bearing continues to rotate smoothly.
The outer and inner rings, as well as the rolling elements, are made from through-hardened standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6). A sturdy cage made from pressed sheet steel ensures precise guidance of the balls. The material offers high dimensional stability and a long fatigue life under rated load.
The component is specified for continuous operation within a temperature range of -30 to +120 degrees. Within this temperature range, the standard rolling-bearing steel, the lubricant and the sheet metal cover plates retain their mechanical properties without any loss of dimensional accuracy.
This bearing is manufactured to the standard tolerance P0 (corresponding to PN according to DIN and ABEC 1). This tolerance class specifies precise dimensional tolerances for the bore, outer diameter and concentricity, and meets the standard requirements of general mechanical engineering and drive technology.
