The SKF 6004 -2Z/C3 deep groove ball bearing features compact dimensions of 20x42x12 mm, increased C3 clearance and protection against coarse dirt on both sides.
The 6004 -2Z/C3 deep groove ball bearing is a single-row rolling bearing made from standard 100Cr6 bearing steel, with a bore diameter of 20 mm, an outer diameter of 42 mm and a width of 12 mm. It forms part of the SKF Explorer series and features dimensional accuracy to tolerance class P6 and running accuracy to P5. Two non-contacting sheet metal shields keep out dirt particles, whilst the sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements. This provides designers and maintenance engineers with a versatile component for demanding industrial applications.
This deep-groove ball bearing primarily accommodates radial loads as well as moderate axial forces in both directions. Thanks to its permissible temperature range of –20 to +120 degrees, this design is suitable for rotating shafts in various mechanical assemblies. Unlike abrasive rubber seals, the non-contact cover plates do not cause any additional friction. This ensures that the system retains its smooth running action at high speeds. In dusty environments, the metal covers on both sides protect the interior from the ingress of foreign particles.
The designation C3 indicates an increased radial bearing clearance compared to the standard. This design compensates for thermal expansion when temperature differences occur between the inner and outer rings during operation, or when tight fits reduce the radial clearance. The double-sided cover (-2Z) acts as a low-maintenance barrier against lubricant leakage. The cylindrical outer ring has no groove or flange and is designed for centred installation in smooth housing bores.
With a bore diameter of 20 mm, an outside diameter of 42 mm and a width of 12 mm, the roller bearing has compact standard dimensions. The outer ring is cylindrical in design, with no groove or flange. This geometry allows for straightforward installation in cylindrical housing bores and ensures a precise fit when replacing the bearing during maintenance or in new designs.
The designation C3 indicates a slightly increased radial clearance compared with the standard version. This additional operating clearance is advantageous when tight fits on the shaft and housing constrict the bearing, or when operating heat causes the inner ring to expand. This ensures that low-friction operation is maintained even under increased thermal loads.
The sheet metal cover plates on both sides form a non-contact gap seal on the inner ring. They keep coarse dirt particles and swarf out of the bearing interior and help to retain the lubricant. As there is no sliding sealing contact, no additional frictional heat is generated, which ensures particularly smooth running.
The 6004-2Z/C3 deep-groove ball bearing is designed for an operating temperature range of -20 to +120 degrees. This temperature range allows it to be used in environments subject to both cold and moderate process heat. The standard rolling bearing steel 100Cr6 and the sheet steel cage help to maintain the dimensional stability of the raceways and rolling elements within these limits.
These specifications define the bearing’s manufacturing precision. The dimensional accuracy complies with Class P6, whilst the running accuracy meets the even tighter tolerances of Class P5. For your application, this means lower run-out errors and precise guidance of the rotating shaft, which benefits vibration-sensitive machinery.
The inner and outer rings, as well as the rolling elements, are made of standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6), which ensures load-carrying capacity and wear resistance. The balls are guided by a lightweight sheet steel cage, which distributes mechanical loads evenly and adds minimal mass to the system.
