The FAG 6222 -2Z deep-groove ball bearing, with a bore of 110 mm, an outer diameter of 200 mm and cover plates on both sides, is designed primarily to accommodate radial loads.
The FAG 6222 -2Z deep groove ball bearing is a single-row radial ball bearing for machine mountings with a shaft diameter of 110 mm. Manufactured from through-hardened standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6), this unit primarily withstands radial loads as well as moderate axial forces in both directions. This design features a cylindrical outer ring without a groove or flange. The non-contact covers on both sides protect the interior of the bearing from coarse dirt particles without generating additional frictional heat during operation.
This radial deep-groove ball bearing is designed for mounting shafts with a diameter of 110 mm at constant speeds. Typical applications include industrial drives, gearboxes and rotating machine components. As the rolling elements and rings are manufactured from conventional standard rolling-bearing steel, the component offers dimensional stability under purely radial as well as combined load profiles in enclosed machine compartments.
The designation ‘2Z’ indicates the use of two profiled sheet metal cover plates, which form a narrow gap with the inner ring shoulder. This non-contact sealing variant prevents power losses due to friction and protects the internal area, including the steel cage, from the ingress of foreign particles. The standard radial bearing clearance (Class CN) ensures, provided the fit is correct and operating temperatures are moderate (between -30 and +120 degrees), a balanced combination of smooth running and concentricity in accordance with tolerance class P0.
The bearing has an inside diameter of 110 mm, an outside diameter of 200 mm and a width across flats of 38 mm. These dimensions correspond to the standardised dimensions for this design. The cylindrical outer ring has no mounting groove or flange and fits into appropriately sized mounting bores.
The designation 2Z indicates that sheet steel cover plates are fitted on both sides. These plates protect the ball and cage chamber from coarse dust and contaminants. As they do not come into contact with the rotating inner ring, no frictional torque is generated. This allows for higher rotational speeds compared with abrasive rubber seals.
The permissible operating temperature range is between -30 and +120 degrees Celsius. Both the rolling elements and the bearing rings, made from standard 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel, retain their dimensional stability within this temperature range. The integrated sheet metal cage can also withstand these temperatures, ensuring that the balls are guided stably.
The product has the standard radial bearing clearance, often referred to as tolerance class CN. This standard factory-set clearance is suitable for normal installation conditions where there are no extreme temperature differences between the inner and outer rings. The operating clearance remains within the specified range after the bearing has been pressed onto the shaft.
A solid sheet-steel cage is used inside the roller bearing. It maintains an even spacing between the rows of balls and prevents the rolling elements from rubbing against one another. Sheet metal cages are characterised by their low weight, insensitivity to temperature and high strength under standard operating conditions.
The bearing is manufactured to the standard tolerance class P0 (corresponding to PN or ABEC 1). This accuracy class meets the requirements of general mechanical and plant engineering. It defines precise limit values for concentricity, dimensional accuracy and parallelism of the raceways, provided the bearings are correctly fitted onto ground shaft seats.
