The 6232 -M-C3 deep-groove ball bearing from FAG Rolling Bearings, with a 160 mm bore, brass cage and increased bearing clearance, offers high load-carrying capacity under demanding operating conditions.
This single-row deep groove ball bearing 6232 -M-C3 is designed as an open bearing without sealing rings. It primarily absorbs radial forces and can be loaded axially in both directions. Manufactured from standard rolling-element bearing steel 100Cr6 and fitted with a brass cage and increased bearing clearance (C3), this version is designed for thermally demanding applications in a temperature range from -30 to +200 degrees.
This size is primarily used in industrial shaft bearings subject to high combined loads. As the outer ring is manufactured without a groove or flange, the component can be mounted directly into cylindrical housing bores. The open design is suitable for constructions with an external lubrication supply, such as oil circulation systems or housing lubrication. Thanks to the standard rolling bearing steel 100Cr6, the bearing retains its dimensional stability even under varying loads.
The brass cage is characterised by high stability under vibrations, high accelerations and elevated operating temperatures. The designation C3 indicates a radial clearance that is slightly greater than the standard clearance. This additional radial clearance compensates for thermal expansion when the shaft and inner ring heat up. At the same time, the increased clearance prevents the rolling elements from becoming jammed in the case of tight fits on the 160 mm shaft.
The bearing has an internal diameter of 160 mm, an external diameter of 290 mm and a width of 48 mm. These dimensions are standardised and designed for heavy-duty shaft bearings.
The suffix ‘M’ denotes the version with a brass cage. This cage material offers high strength and wear resistance under dynamic loads or vibrations.
The C3 bearing clearance refers to a slightly increased radial bearing clearance compared with the standard version. This ensures that sufficient clearance is maintained when the bearing heats up during operation or where there are tight fits on the shaft and housing, thereby reducing the risk of stress on the rolling elements.
The open bearing is designed for a temperature range of -30 to +200 degrees. As there are no integrated seals, the actual operating limit is largely determined by the lubricant selected.
The bearing complies with tolerance class P0 or PN and thus meets ABEC 1 accuracy standards. This standard tolerance meets the requirements of typical industrial shaft bearings.
As the bearing is manufactured without seals, protection against contamination and moisture is provided by the surrounding housing structure, for example by means of labyrinth seals or housing sealing rings.
