The FAG 16005 deep groove ball bearing, with its compact dimensions of 25 × 47 × 8 mm, offers a narrow design for radial and axial loads.
The FAG 16005 deep groove ball bearing is a single-row radial ball bearing made from standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6) with a bore of 25 mm, an outer diameter of 47 mm and a width of 8 mm. Thanks to the particularly narrow design of the 160 series, this rolling bearing is suitable for applications with limited axial installation space. A sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements evenly into the deep raceways. The open bearing allows direct access to lubricant within the housing and is suitable for a temperature range of -20 to +150 degrees.
The open deep-groove ball bearing 16005 is primarily used in sealed housings where a lubrication supply using oil or grease is already provided by the customer. As the bearing has no integrated sealing washers, it minimises friction and is suitable for applications with predominantly radial loads and moderate axial forces where space is limited.
The ball bearing complies with the standard tolerance class P0 (PN or ABEC 1) and has a standard radial clearance. This design covers typical mounting fits and standard operating conditions in mechanical engineering without extreme temperature differences. As no contact seals are fitted, the bearing runs smoothly from the outset. Designers and maintenance engineers should ensure, on site, that there is adequate external sealing against ingress of dirt particles, as well as appropriate initial lubrication.
This deep-groove ball bearing has an inner diameter of 25 mm, an outer diameter of 47 mm and a narrow width of 8 mm. The dimensions comply with the standardised 160 series. Thanks to its cylindrical outer ring without a flange or groove, the rolling bearing fits precisely into flat housing bores.
Open bearings have neither sealing rings nor cover plates, which reduces frictional resistance to a minimum during operation. This design requires the bearing to operate in a protected environment or for the surrounding housing to be externally sealed. Lubrication is provided by the lubricant present in the system, for example via an oil bath or free-flowing grease.
The standard radial bearing clearance refers to the factory-set clearance between the balls and the raceways when the bearing is unmounted. It is designed for standard shaft and housing fits, where the operating clearance stabilises within the specified range after press-fitting. For applications without unusual heat generation or tight press fits, this design offers reliable operation.
The permissible operating range for this roller bearing is between -20 and +150 degrees Celsius. The rings and rolling elements, made from standard 100Cr6 rolling-bearing steel, as well as the temperature-resistant sheet steel cage, retain their dimensional stability within this range. At higher temperatures, the external lubricant used must be suitable for the relevant temperature range.
Tolerance class P0, also known as standard tolerance PN or ABEC 1, defines the permissible dimensional and running tolerances for rolling bearings in standard industrial applications. It fully meets the requirements of most applications in general mechanical engineering. Higher tolerance classes are required only for specialised applications with extreme concentricity requirements.
The sheet steel cage separates the rolling elements from one another, prevents them from coming into contact and maintains a constant ball spacing. This ensures an even load distribution along the raceway and reduces heat build-up. Sheet steel cages are characterised by their low weight and high mechanical and thermal resistance during operation.
