The FAG 6060-M deep-groove ball bearing, with dimensions of 300 × 460 × 74 mm and a brass cage, provides a robust bearing solution for heavy-duty industrial applications.
The 6060-M deep groove ball bearing is a single-row radial ball bearing manufactured by FAG for heavy-duty mechanical structures in industrial machinery and plant engineering. With an inner diameter of 300 mm, an outer diameter of 460 mm and a width of 74 mm, this large bearing can accommodate high radial loads and moderate axial forces in both directions. Manufactured from 100Cr6 rolling-bearing steel and fitted with a brass cage, the component is designed for a temperature range of –20 to +150 degrees Celsius.
Design engineers primarily use the 6060-M deep groove ball bearing in heavy-duty industrial gearboxes and large-scale drive units. Thanks to the combination of standard radial clearance and manufacture to tolerance class P0/PN, the rolling bearing supports large-diameter shafts with uniform concentricity. As this version is designed without sealing washers, it is fitted into housings that provide an external lubricant supply and housing-side sealing.
The suffix ‘-M’ denotes the solid brass cage, which guides the rolling elements and withstands mechanical loads. Compared to sheet steel designs, brass is characterised by increased mechanical stability and favourable friction properties. From a design perspective, it must be borne in mind that the open bearing requires a continuous supply of lubricating oil or grease via the surrounding machine housing for operation.
With a bore of 300 mm, an outer diameter of 460 mm and a width of 74 mm, this component is classified as a large bearing. The outer ring is cylindrical in design and has neither a groove nor a flange. These dimensions enable it to reliably withstand high radial forces.
The code letter -M indicates a solid brass cage. Compared with sheet steel cages, brass offers high strength and favourable coefficients of friction, which is advantageous for large rolling elements. The cage guides the balls precisely and maintains a uniform spacing between them during operation.
The roller bearing is designed with a standard radial clearance. This design is suitable for standard operating conditions without extreme thermal expansion or exceptional fit allowances. This ensures that the required operating clearance between the rolling elements and the raceways, which are made of 100Cr6 bearing steel, is maintained.
As it has no integrated seals, the open design allows for direct lubrication via the machine housing, for example by means of an oil bath or oil circulation. Furthermore, there is no friction caused by rubbing sealing elements. To protect against the ingress of dirt and the escape of lubricant, appropriate housing seals must be fitted during assembly.
The permissible temperature range is from -20 to +150 degrees Celsius. Both the bearing rings and rolling elements, made from roller bearing steel, and the brass cage are designed for this range. In practice, it is primarily the lubricant used that determines the maximum temperatures at which the bearing can operate.
The bearing is manufactured to the P0/PN standard tolerance class, which corresponds to the ABEC 1 classification. This standard specifies the permissible dimensional and runout tolerances. It covers the typical precision requirements of general mechanical engineering and allows for a precise fit on the shaft.
