The SKF 4304 ATN9 double-row deep groove ball bearing combines dimensions of 20 × 52 × 21 mm with a high radial load-carrying capacity thanks to its two rows of balls.
The SKF 4304 ATN9 deep groove ball bearing is a double-row rolling bearing made from standard bearing steel (100Cr6) with a bore of 20 mm, an outer diameter of 52 mm and a width of 21 mm. Compared with single-row variants, the design accommodates higher radial loads whilst maintaining the same internal diameter, thanks to the two rows of balls. This open bearing has a standard radial clearance and is suitable for a temperature range of –20 to +120 degrees Celsius.
The double-row deep groove ball bearing 4304 ATN9 is used in bearing arrangements where increased radial forces are present and axial installation space is limited. This design is ideal when a single-row bearing would be radially overloaded and the shaft diameter needs to be maintained. As this is an open design without an integrated seal, the installation location requires an external housing seal as well as lubrication with oil or grease.
The ATN9 design features a polyamide cage that guides the rolling elements and reduces friction within the bearing. The material dampens operating noise and contributes to smooth running. The temperature range of -20 to +120 degrees Celsius must be taken into account in the design. The bearing complies with tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1 and therefore fits into conventional standard bearing seats.
The bearing has an inner diameter of 20 mm, an outer diameter of 52 mm and a width of 21 mm. Due to its width of 21 mm, there is space for two parallel rows of balls, enabling the bearing to withstand higher loads than narrower single-row designs with the same shaft diameter.
At SKF, the suffix ATN9 denotes a polyamide cage. This material enables low-friction guidance of the rolling elements and reduces the generation of running noise. It should be noted that, due to the nature of the material, the upper limit of the permissible temperature range is +120 degrees Celsius.
Double-row deep-groove ball bearings have two rows of balls arranged side by side in deep raceways. This design can accommodate greater radial loads and axial forces in both directions than single-row bearings of a comparable size. It is selected when the shaft diameter is fixed and a higher load-carrying capacity is required.
As this model is manufactured without integrated seals, the lubricant reaches the rolling elements and raceways directly from the outside. The surrounding housing provides protection against dirt and moisture via sealing rings or a cover. Depending on the operating conditions, the bearing is lubricated either via an oil bath or with rolling-element bearing grease.
The permissible temperature range is between -20 and +120 degrees Celsius. The upper temperature limit is determined by the behaviour of the polyamide cage. Within this temperature range, the combination of 100Cr6 rolling-bearing steel and a plastic cage ensures stable operation in industrial applications.
The bearing is manufactured with standard radial clearance and complies with the standard tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1. It is suitable for standard installation situations with typical shaft and housing fits, where no increased bearing clearance or tighter precision tolerances are required.
