The SKF 6212 /VA201 single-row deep groove ball bearing features a 60 mm bore, manganese-phosphated surfaces and special grease for temperatures up to +250 °C.
The SKF 6212 /VA201 deep groove ball bearing is designed as an open, single-row rolling bearing for demanding thermal conditions. With key dimensions of 60 mm inner diameter, 110 mm outer diameter and 22 mm width, the component primarily transmits radial forces during continuous rotational movement. Both rings and rolling elements feature a manganese phosphate coating, which improves metal-to-metal contact. A special grease filling supports operation within an extended temperature range of -40 to +250 degrees Celsius.
Design engineers prefer to select the 6212 /VA201 deep-groove ball bearing for bearing locations subject to sustained high temperatures and continuous thermal stress. As the bearing is of an open design, ambient air comes into direct contact with the raceways. The manganese-phosphated rings and rolling elements provide additional protection to the structure in the event of insufficient lubrication or during the running-in period. Thanks to its tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1, this model fits into cylindrical housing seats without a flange or ring groove.
During operation, the inner ring expands more than the cooler housing seat of the outer ring when exposed to intense heat. This could completely use up the standard bearing clearance, which may lead to bearing stresses and premature failure. The significantly increased radial bearing clearance in this VA201 version precisely compensates for this thermal differential expansion between the shaft and the housing. The sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements along the circular path. When designing the application, it must be borne in mind that the open design offers no protection against ambient particles.
This roller bearing is based on the dimensions 60 × 110 × 22 mm and is designed as an open, single-row bearing. Optional features include manganese-phosphated surfaces on the rings and balls, a filling with special high-temperature grease, and a significantly increased radial clearance for thermally stressed environments.
This version is designed to operate within a temperature range of -40 to +250 degrees Celsius. The special grease incorporated into the design is specifically tailored to these thermal conditions, ensuring that the lubricating effect is maintained throughout the entire temperature range.
At high operating temperatures, the shaft – and with it the inner ring – usually heats up more quickly than the surrounding housing. The increased radial clearance helps to prevent thermal stresses in the rolling bearing and to maintain smooth running.
The chemical coating on rings and rolling elements improves lubricant wetting and reduces direct metal-to-metal contact. This aids the running-in process and provides additional protection against wear in the event of brief periods of insufficient lubrication at high temperatures.
The bearing complies with tolerance class P0 or PN, which corresponds to ABEC 1. This is the standard tolerance commonly used for industrial roller bearings, suitable for standardised cylindrical shaft seats and housing bores.
