The FAG 6309-M deep-groove ball bearing is an open, single-row rolling bearing with a brass cage, measuring 45 x 100 x 25 mm.
The FAG 6309-M deep groove ball bearing is suitable for demanding applications in general mechanical engineering and drive technology. As a single-row radial ball bearing, this component primarily withstands radial loads and supports shafts subjected to moderate axial forces in both directions. The design features a bore of 45 mm, an outer diameter of 100 mm and a width of 25 mm. Manufactured from standard rolling-bearing steel 100Cr6, the component operates within a temperature range of -30 to +150 degrees.
Design engineers primarily use the 6309-M deep groove ball bearing where stable guidance is required under vibration or higher mechanical demands. Typical applications include shaft guides subject to dynamic loads and vibrations. As there are no integrated seals, the rolling elements are lubricated during operation by an oil bath or housing grease. The solid brass cage guides the rolling elements accurately through the deep raceways, even during rapid changes in speed.
The suffix ‘-M’ denotes a solid brass cage. Compared to standard sheet steel cages, brass is characterised by high strength combined with low friction. This proves advantageous under vibration-intensive operating conditions and during rapid load changes. The standard radial bearing clearance, together with manufacture to tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1, enables straightforward installation in accordance with common industry standards. Clean lubrication conditions help to minimise premature wear at the rolling contact.
With an internal bore of 45 mm, an external diameter of 100 mm and a width of 25 mm, the component conforms to the 6309 metric series. These dimensions allow for a precise fit when mounted on suitable shafts and in standardised housing bores in conventional mechanical engineering.
The designation ‘-M’ stands for a brass cage. Compared with pressed sheet steel, this cage material offers greater resistance to vibration, distortion and impact loads. This ensures that the rolling elements remain dimensionally stable even under demanding conditions.
As there are no integrated grinding or cover discs, the lubricant is fed directly to the balls from the outside. These designs use either grease or an oil circulation system within the housing. An external housing seal prevents the ingress of dirt particles and the escape of the lubricant.
The version made from 100Cr6 roller bearing steel with a brass cage is suitable for temperatures between -30 and +150 degrees. Within this range, the bearing material retains its dimensional stability. When selecting the lubricant, care must be taken to ensure that the oil or grease is approved for the relevant operating temperature.
Standard radial bearing clearance refers to the factory-set radial clearance between the inner ring, outer ring and rolling elements prior to installation. This standard bearing clearance is suitable for typical transition fits on shafts and housings, as well as for applications without exceptionally large temperature differences between the bearing rings.
Tolerance class P0 corresponds to standard accuracy, comparable to ABEC 1 in the US. It defines permissible dimensional and running error tolerances, such as roundness and run-out. Components in this class meet the standard requirements of industrial mechanical engineering.
