The SKF 16044 single-row deep-groove ball bearing, measuring 220 × 340 × 37 mm, offers a compact design for radial and axial loads.
The 16044 deep-groove ball bearing is a single-row rolling bearing to standard tolerance class P0/PN (ABEC 1) for industrial applications. This open bearing from SKF features a sheet steel cage, as well as rings and rolling elements made from standard bearing steel 100Cr6. This design is primarily used where large shaft diameters need to be supported whilst maintaining a low radial height. The component primarily absorbs radial forces as well as moderate axial forces in both directions.
The 16044 deep groove ball bearing is primarily used in industrial drives and rotating shafts with a diameter of 220 mm. Due to its open design, the bearing operates with low friction and can be integrated directly into closed oil circuits. The slim design, with a width of 37 mm and an outer diameter of 340 mm, saves valuable installation space. The bearing is suitable for operating temperatures between –20 and +120 degrees.
The bearing has standard radial clearance. This standard clearance is suitable for operating conditions without excessive shaft heating or extreme press fits. As the bearing is unsealed, lubricant reaches the rolling elements and raceways unhindered. However, the open design requires a clean installation environment or external housing seals to prevent the ingress of contaminants. The guided sheet steel cage keeps the balls at a uniform distance apart and ensures smooth running.
This roller bearing has an inner diameter of 220 mm, an outer diameter of 340 mm and a width of 37 mm. These dimensions characterise a comparatively narrow design for large shafts. This makes the bearing suitable for designs where the installation space is limited in both the radial and axial directions.
As an open bearing, this model does not have integrated sealing washers. Depending on the design, you should lubricate the bearing with roller bearing grease or connect it to an existing oil circuit. It is important to have an external housing seal to ensure that the lubricant remains within the system and that contaminants do not reach the raceways.
The standard radial bearing clearance refers to the factory-set bearing clearance when the bearing is in its unmounted state. This standard value is sufficient for the majority of industrial applications involving conventional operating temperatures and standard fit conditions. The expansion of the shaft and housing during operation results in an appropriate operating clearance without premature tightening.
The permissible temperature range is between -20 and +120 degrees. This range is determined by the 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel used and the sheet steel cage. When designing the system, ensure that you select a lubricant which covers this temperature range and remains stable throughout the entire operating period.
The sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements precisely and prevents them from coming into contact with one another. The material is characterised by its low weight combined with good strength. Furthermore, the sheet steel cage takes up very little space inside the bearing, allowing lubricating oil or grease to flow unhindered to all functional contact surfaces.
The bearing is manufactured to tolerance class P0 or PN, which corresponds to ABEC 1. This is the standard tolerance for industrial roller bearings. It ensures sufficient concentricity and dimensional accuracy for most applications in general mechanical engineering and plant construction.
