The SKF 629/C3 deep groove ball bearing is a compact, open rolling bearing measuring 9 × 26 × 8 mm and featuring increased radial clearance.
The single-row deep groove ball bearing 629/C3 is designed primarily to support radial loads as well as moderate axial forces in both directions. Thanks to its open design without integrated sealing washers, the bearing operates with minimal rolling resistance and is suitable for assemblies where lubrication is supplied via an external lubrication system. The inner and outer rings, as well as the rolling elements, are made from standard roller bearing steel 100Cr6. A sturdy sheet steel cage keeps the balls evenly spaced and prevents direct contact between adjacent rolling elements during rotation.
Compact bearing arrangements operating at high speeds constitute the primary area of application for this design. As lubricating oil or grease can reach the raceways directly and unhindered, only minimal friction losses occur during operation. The open design requires a clean housing environment that is protected from contamination. With a permissible temperature range of –20 to +150 degrees, the rolling bearing is designed to be thermally stable, provided that the lubricant used is approved for the respective ambient temperatures.
The C3 designation indicates a slightly increased radial clearance compared with the standard CN version. If temperature gradients occur between the inner and outer rings during operation, or if tight press fits are selected on the shaft and housing, the internal radial clearance decreases. The C3 bearing clearance accommodates these thermal and elastic dimensional changes and effectively prevents the rolling elements from jamming. Manufactured to the standard tolerance class P0 or ABEC 1, the bearing offers defined running characteristics for industrial applications.
This deep-groove ball bearing has an inside diameter of 9 mm, an outside diameter of 26 mm and a width of 8 mm. The cylindrical outer ring has no flange or groove and fits precisely into standard housing bores.
The designation C3 indicates a slightly increased radial bearing clearance compared with the standard version. The internal clearance between the balls and raceways is increased. This is recommended for tight fits or where the bearing is subject to heat build-up during operation, as thermal expansion reduces the internal clearance.
As an open roller bearing, the 629/C3 has neither cover plates nor sealing washers. This design minimises friction and allows for a direct supply of lubricant from the surrounding system. Its use requires a clean operating environment or an external housing seal to protect against dirt and moisture.
The component is designed for an operating temperature range of -20 to +150 degrees. Both the 100Cr6 roller bearing steel and the sheet steel cage retain their dimensional stability within these limits. The actual upper temperature limit during continuous operation also depends on the external lubricant selected.
A sheet steel cage guides the single-row arrangement of rolling elements inside the bearing. This cage design is characterised by its low weight, requires little installation space and can withstand varying rotational speeds as well as the specified operating temperatures without any loss of performance.
