The FAG 61948 -M-C3 deep-groove ball bearing, with a 240 mm bore, brass cage and C3 clearance, offers a reliable solution for high-heat-load large-scale bearing arrangements.
The 61948 -M-C3 deep groove ball bearing from FAG Rolling Bearings is a single-row radial ball bearing designed for demanding industrial applications. With dimensions of a 240 mm bore, 320 mm outer diameter and 38 mm width, this open roller bearing is characterised by a slim cross-section despite its large shaft diameter. Manufactured from standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6), this ball bearing can withstand high radial loads and moderate axial loads. The open design allows unobstructed access of lubricant into the housing.
Design engineers primarily use this large bearing in machines that require large shaft diameters despite limited radial installation space. Typical applications can be found in general heavy machinery construction and in industrial gearboxes. Thanks to its wide temperature range of –30 to +200 degrees, the unit is suitable for use under thermal stress. Without sealing washers, the component is designed for integration into housings with centralised lubrication systems that supply lubricant continuously.
The solid brass cage guides the rolling elements with minimal vibration and is suitable for dynamic loads or higher speeds. At the same time, this variant features an increased radial bearing clearance of C3. This additional clearance compensates for operational thermal expansion of the shaft and housing without causing the bearing to become stressed. With tolerance class P0 (ABEC 1), the component meets established industry requirements. External housing seals must be provided in the design, as the bearing is left unsealed at the factory.
This roller bearing combines a slim design with a sturdy brass cage and an increased C3 clearance. It has an inner diameter of 240 mm, an outer diameter of 320 mm and a width of 38 mm. Manufactured from standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6), it operates within a temperature range of -30 to +200 degrees and is suitable for industrial plants subject to high thermal loads.
The letter M denotes a guided solid brass cage, which ensures smooth running and dampens mechanical vibrations. The designation C3 indicates a slightly increased radial bearing clearance. This clearance prevents the rolling elements from seizing up when temperature differences occur between the inner and outer rings during continuous operation, or when tight fits are specified.
Open roller bearings have neither cover plates nor sealing plates. This design facilitates the unimpeded circulation of liquid lubricants, as is standard in enclosed gearbox housings or oil circulation systems. The supply of lubricant and the sealing against the external environment are provided entirely by the surrounding housing structure of the unit.
Thanks to the brass cage and the material properties of 100Cr6 steel, the component is suitable for operating temperatures ranging from -30 to +200 degrees. In conjunction with the C3 bearing clearance, low-friction operation is maintained even when the component heats up noticeably, provided that the lubricant used is suitable for these temperatures.
The ball bearing is manufactured to tolerance class P0 or PN, which corresponds to the international ABEC 1 classification. This standard precision meets the requirements for the vast majority of industrial and machinery applications. The 240 mm cylindrical bore allows for precise fitting onto standardised shaft seats without the need for complex customisation.
As this model is designed without an integrated seal, external components such as radial shaft seals, housing covers or labyrinth seals provide protection against contamination. This gives maintenance engineers and designers the opportunity to tailor the sealing system specifically to environmental factors such as dust, splash water or chemical influences.
