The SKF 6002 -2Z/C3 deep groove ball bearing, with dimensions of 15x32x9 mm, cover plates on both sides and a C3 clearance, offers low-friction operation at elevated operating temperatures.
The 6002 -2Z/C3 deep groove ball bearing is a single-row radial ball bearing made from 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel, with a 15 mm bore, 32 mm outer diameter and 9 mm width. In SKF’s Explorer version, the component combines dimensional accuracy to P6 with running accuracy to P5. The sheet metal shields on both sides protect the bearing interior from dirt particles without generating additional friction. This makes this ball bearing suitable for high speeds under predominantly radial loads as well as moderate axial forces in both directions.
This deep-groove ball bearing is suitable for designs involving high speeds and low levels of contamination. Thanks to its sheet steel cage and permissible temperature range of –20 to +120 degrees, the component is designed for demanding operating environments. The non-contacting cover plates retain the factory-applied grease inside the bearing. This facilitates low-maintenance bearing arrangements in assemblies where there is no direct exposure to liquids.
The designation C3 indicates a slightly increased radial bearing clearance compared with the standard version. This variant compensates for temperature differences between the inner and outer rings, which reduce radial clearance during operation. Even with tight fits on the shaft or in the housing, the C3 bearing clearance accommodates thermal or mechanical constrictions. The outer ring does not require a flange or groove, which is why axial fixation in the housing is achieved via abutment shoulders or retaining rings.
This single-row deep-groove ball bearing has an inner diameter of 15 mm, an outer diameter of 32 mm and a width across flats of 9 mm. The outer ring is cylindrical in design and has neither a ring groove nor a flange. The compact design is primarily designed to accommodate radial loads as well as low axial forces.
The designation 2Z refers to cover plates made of sheet steel fitted on both sides, which shield the interior of the bearing from particles without coming into contact with it. The suffix ‘C3’ indicates a slightly increased radial clearance. This design compensates for thermal expansion during operation as well as tight fits on the shaft and housing.
The permissible operating temperature range is between -20 and +120 degrees Celsius. This range is limited by the lubricant and the interaction between the cage and the cover plates. Within this range, the bearing, made of hardened roller bearing steel, retains its dimensional stability.
The bearing combines dimensional accuracy of tolerance class P6 with increased running accuracy of class P5. Compared with standard tolerance, it exhibits lower run-out and dimensional deviations. This reduces vibrations during operation, promotes smooth shaft rotation and is recommended for guided machine components.
Cover plates marked 2Z do not come into contact with the inner ring, meaning that no additional frictional torque is generated. As a result, the bearing allows high rotational speeds with low heat generation. Whilst contact rubber seals offer greater protection against moisture, the friction they cause limits the maximum permissible operating speed.
The inner ring, outer ring and rolling elements are made from fully hardened standard roller bearing steel 100Cr6. A sheet steel cage serves as the guide for the balls. The side covers are also made from profiled sheet metal. The bearing does not have an electrically insulating coating.
