The FAG 6056 -M-C3 deep-groove ball bearing, with dimensions of 280 × 420 × 65 mm, a brass cage and C3 clearance, provides a solid basis for large bearings subjected to thermal stress.
The 6056 -M-C3 deep groove ball bearing is a single-row radial ball bearing for shafts with a diameter of 280 mm. This open heavy-duty bearing from FAG has an outer diameter of 420 mm and a width of 65 mm. Manufactured from standard rolling-element bearing steel 100Cr6, the component primarily absorbs radial forces as well as moderate axial forces on both sides. It is manufactured to the standard tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1 for standardised industrial applications.
Heavy-duty industrial gearboxes and large rotating units in general mechanical engineering typically use the 6056 -M-C3 deep groove ball bearing as a fixed or floating bearing. The combination of solid bearing rings and robust rolling elements enables the bearing to withstand high loads at constant speeds. As the outer ring is designed without a flange or groove, the bearing can be fitted with a precise fit into cylindrical housing bores.
The solid brass cage, designated by the letter M, reliably guides the balls along the raceways even in the presence of vibrations or shocks. The increased radial clearance (C3) compensates for thermal expansion that may occur during continuous operation at higher temperatures. This ensures that the required operating clearance between the rolling elements and raceways is maintained if the shaft and housing heat up unevenly during operation. The permissible temperature range for the bearing components is from -30 to +200 degrees.
With a cylindrical bore of 280 mm, an external diameter of 420 mm and a width of 65 mm, this large bearing conforms to the metric size series. The main dimensions determine the required installation space on the shaft and within the housing.
The designation C3 indicates a slightly increased radial bearing clearance compared with the standard version. This greater radial clearance is recommended for tight fits on the shaft and housing, as well as where there are temperature differences between the inner and outer rings, to prevent the bearing from becoming stressed during operation.
The letter M stands for a solid brass cage. This type of cage is characterised by its high resistance to impact loads. It guides the rolling elements with minimal vibration and is well suited to demanding environmental conditions in continuous industrial operation.
The open design, which does not feature integrated sealing washers, allows externally supplied lubricating oil or grease to flow directly through the unit. In the case of large bearings of this size, sealing is usually achieved externally by means of housing seals to prevent lubricant loss and the ingress of dirt particles.
The permissible temperature range is between -30 and +200 degrees. The thermal stability of the standard rolling-bearing steel 100Cr6 and the brass cage makes them suitable for use under demanding thermal conditions in industrial plants.
Manufacturing is carried out to the standard tolerance P0 or PN, which corresponds to the ABEC 1 standard. This class defines the permissible dimensional and concentricity tolerances for standardised industrial applications and supports functional interchangeability.
