The SKF 6212 deep groove ball bearing, with dimensions of 60x110x22 mm, is designed for predominantly radial loads in open arrangements.
The single-row deep groove ball bearing 6212 primarily accommodates radial forces as well as axial loads in both directions. Manufactured from standard rolling-element bearing steel (100Cr6) and fitted with a lightweight sheet steel cage, this design is suitable for operating temperatures ranging from –20 to +120 degrees. Manufactured to SKF’s Explorer performance class, it complies with the specifications of tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1. This makes the design suitable for demanding industrial applications with standardised mounting conditions.
This radial ball bearing is typically used in enclosed assemblies in mechanical engineering where there is a housing-side seal and an external lubrication supply. As the cylindrical outer ring has no groove or flange, the bearing fits flush into precise housing bores. The open design allows unimpeded circulation of lubricating oil or grease directly to the raceways, whilst minimising frictional resistance within the system.
The open design without integrated sealing washers is particularly recommended for applications that are already protected externally against dirt and moisture. By eliminating contact sealing lips, friction is kept to a minimum, which helps to minimise temperature rise at higher speeds. This model is fitted with standard radial clearance and is therefore designed for applications with conventional fit combinations and a constant operating temperature.
The internal diameter is 60 mm, the external diameter is 110 mm and the width is 22 mm. These dimensions determine the fits on the shaft and the housing.
As an open-type bearing, this roller bearing does not feature integrated cover plates or sealing discs. This allows the lubricant from the surrounding system to reach the rolling elements and raceways directly and unimpeded.
The inner ring, outer ring and rolling elements are made from standard roller bearing steel 100Cr6. The integrated cage, which guides the rolling elements, is made from sheet steel.
The permissible operating temperature ranges from -20 to +120 degrees. Within this range, the material and components retain their dimensional stability provided that the lubrication supply is tailored to the operating conditions.
The standard radial bearing clearance refers to the specified clearance between the rolling elements and the rings as supplied. It ensures that, once the bearing has been fitted onto the shaft and housing, it can rotate without any undue stress.
The bearing is manufactured to tolerance class P0 or PN, which corresponds to class ABEC 1 in the US system. It meets the standard requirements for concentricity and dimensional accuracy in mechanical engineering.
