The SKF 6228 /C3 deep groove ball bearing, with a 140 mm bore and C3 clearance, offers reliable running characteristics for highly loaded bearing arrangements.
The SKF 6228/C3 deep groove ball bearing is a single-row radial ball bearing for industrial applications. With a bore of 140 mm, an outer diameter of 250 mm and a width of 42 mm, the bearing primarily accommodates radial forces. The inner and outer rings, as well as the rolling elements, are made of standard bearing steel 100Cr6. A sheet steel cage guides the balls evenly into the deep raceways.
Design engineers primarily use this size for bearing arrangements subjected to predominantly radial forces in general mechanical and plant engineering. The open bearing design allows for lubrication via an existing oil circuit or targeted grease relubrication. As there are no integrated sealing washers to affect concentricity, the rolling bearing operates with low friction. The permissible temperature range extends from –20 to +150 degrees Celsius, enabling use under standard thermal conditions.
The C3 designation indicates a slightly increased radial clearance compared with the standard version. This additional clearance compensates for heat-induced expansion of the bearing rings during operation. It also helps to prevent excessive preload when fits on the shaft or housing cause the inner ring to expand. The bearing complies with tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1 and has an outer ring without a flange or groove.
With a bore of 140 mm, an outer diameter of 250 mm and a width of 42 mm, the bearing complies with standardised key dimensions. This geometry allows it to be fitted into standardised housings and onto suitable shaft seats.
The designation C3 indicates a slightly increased radial bearing clearance compared with the standard version. This clearance reliably compensates for fit-related effects during press-fitting, as well as for temperature-induced dimensional changes between the inner and outer rings during operation.
As an open roller bearing without integrated grinding or cover discs, the bearing housing requires external lubrication with a suitable lubricating oil or grease. The choice depends on the operating temperature, rotational speed and environmental conditions of the application.
The rings and rolling elements are made from fully hardened standard roller bearing steel 100Cr6. A dimensionally stable sheet steel cage separates the rolling elements and maintains a uniform spacing between them, ensuring that the balls rotate smoothly.
The bearing is designed for temperatures between –20 and +150 degrees Celsius. Within this range, the rolling bearing steel retains its dimensional stability, provided that the selected lubricant is approved for these thermal conditions.
This version is manufactured to the standard tolerance P0/PN in accordance with ISO, which corresponds to the ABEC 1 classification. This manufacturing accuracy meets the typical requirements for concentricity and dimensional accuracy in general mechanical engineering.
