The SKF NJ308 ECP cylindrical roller bearing, with a 40 mm bore, polyamide cage and support bearing function, offers high radial load-carrying capacity in a compact design.
The NJ308 ECP cylindrical roller bearing is a single-row radial roller bearing from SKF in an optimised Explorer design. The bearing has a 40 mm bore, an outer diameter of 90 mm and a width of 23 mm. Thanks to the modified line contact between the rollers and raceways, this design can accommodate considerable radial forces. Maintenance engineers and original equipment manufacturers use this open support bearing to implement shaft guidance with defined axial fixation in one direction.
As a support bearing, this design accommodates high radial forces as well as axial forces from one direction. The inner ring is removable from one side, enabling the design to compensate for axial length changes of the shaft in the opposite direction without constraint. Typical applications include demanding shaft mountings and drive units where high rigidity and guidance are required. Thanks to its open design, the roller bearing can be flexibly integrated into centralised lubrication systems.
The suffix ECP stands for an optimised internal design combined with a lightweight polyamide cage. This cage guides the rollers with low friction and is suitable for an operating temperature range of –30 to +120 degrees Celsius. Manufacturing tolerances are also relevant when designing the bearing: with dimensional accuracy to P0 or ABEC 1 and running accuracy to P6 or ABEC 3, this model meets increased requirements for concentricity. The standard radial bearing clearance provides the appropriate operating clearance for standard fits.
With a bore of 40 mm, an outside diameter of 90 mm and a width of 23 mm, the NJ308 ECP cylindrical roller bearing complies with standardised industrial dimensions. These dimensions enable a precise fit in specified housing bores and bearing seats in mechanical engineering, as well as during maintenance repairs.
The NJ design is characterised by two solid flanges on the outer ring and one flange on the inner ring. The component thus functions as a support bearing and, in addition to radial forces, also accommodates one-sided axial loads. In the opposite direction, the removable inner ring allows for axial movement of the shaft relative to the housing.
A polyamide cage is characterised by its low weight and good damping properties. It guides the rollers with low friction and vibration damping. Together with the bearing rings, the component is designed for a temperature range of -30 to +120 degrees Celsius, which covers standard requirements in mechanical engineering.
The dimensional accuracy complies with tolerance class Normal or P0 (comparable to ABEC 1), whilst the running accuracy is manufactured to the finer class P6 (ABEC 3). The mounting dimensions are suitable for standard fits, whilst the tighter running tolerance reduces vibrations during operation and ensures smooth shaft rotation.
As an open design without integrated seals, the bearing requires the bearing housing to be sealed externally against dirt and moisture. Lubrication is provided by grease or lubricating oil from the adjacent structure. As the outer ring has no groove or bore, the lubricant is supplied from the side to the rolling elements.
This model features standard radial bearing clearance for normal installation conditions. This standard clearance compensates for radial constriction resulting from typical shaft and housing fits. During operation, this ensures that the necessary clearance between the rollers and raceways is maintained, thereby supporting the smooth running and functionality of the bearing assembly.
