The FAG NU316 -E-M1 cylindrical roller bearing is a single-row non-locating bearing with a brass cage and main dimensions of 80 x 170 x 39 mm.
As a radial rolling bearing, the FAG NU316 -E-M1 cylindrical roller bearing is primarily designed to accommodate high radial loads. In the NU design, the bearing has two fixed flanges on the outer ring, whilst the inner ring is flangeless. This allows the inner ring to be removed from both sides, which facilitates the separate assembly of both bearing rings. With standard radial clearance and tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1, the design covers a wide range of applications in industrial mechanical engineering.
As a classic floating bearing, this roller bearing allows for the unrestricted compensation of axial length changes directly within the bearing. Typical applications include shaft mountings where temperature-induced expansion or manufacturing tolerances occur. Due to the line contact of the cylindrical rollers, this design is capable of transmitting greater radial forces than point-contact ball bearings. The solid brass cage guides the rolling elements even under vibrations and higher acceleration forces during operation.
The designation letter M1 indicates a solid brass cage. This material is characterised by high strength and low friction relative to the steel rollers. Compared with standard sheet metal cages, the brass version is designed to withstand dynamic mass forces, shock loads and vibrations. As this is an open bearing without an integrated seal, the bearing location requires an external sealing system as well as a suitable lubricant supply for the permissible temperature range of -30 to +150 degrees.
The NU design features two fixed flanges on the outer ring and a smooth, flangeless inner ring. This bearing cannot accommodate axial forces. Instead, the design allows the shaft to move freely relative to the housing within the bearing itself, thereby compensating for thermal expansion without causing harmful stresses.
This single-row cylindrical roller bearing has an inner diameter of 80 mm, an outer diameter of 170 mm and a width across flats of 39 mm. The outer ring is designed without a lubrication bore or lubrication groove, which means that the lubricant must be supplied via the end faces of the bearing housing.
The suffix M1 denotes a solid brass cage. Compared with pressed sheet steel cages, brass cages offer greater mechanical strength and stability. They are suitable for applications involving heavy impact loads and vibrations, as well as for operating conditions involving rapid changes in speed.
The permissible operating temperature range of the bearing is from -30 to +150 degrees. As this is an open bearing without built-in sealing washers, the external lubricant used and the housing seals are the main factors determining the actual temperature limits that can be achieved at the bearing location.
The product is manufactured with standard radial bearing clearance. This bearing clearance class provides a balanced operating clearance under normal fit conditions and at moderate operating temperatures. In terms of its dimensional and running tolerances, the bearing complies with the standard tolerance class P0 or ABEC 1.
As the inner ring has no retaining flanges, it can be pulled completely out of the roller assembly. This allows for separate assembly: the inner ring is pressed directly onto the shaft, whilst the outer ring, together with the roller cage, is inserted separately into the housing, which makes installation easier.
