Cylindrical Roller Bearings SKF NU305 ECP/C3

The SKF NU305 ECP/C3 cylindrical roller bearing is a separable bearing (25x62x17 mm) with a polyamide cage and increased C3 radial clearance for high radial loads.

As a single-row radial roller bearing, the NU305 ECP/C3 withstands high radial forces. Thanks to its optimised internal design and polyamide cage, this SKF design operates quietly and effectively dampens vibrations. The NU design features two fixed flanges on the outer ring, whilst the inner ring is flangeless. This allows the inner ring to be removed from either side, which facilitates mounting on shafts and compensates for axial length changes without constraint.

In which installation situations is the NU305 ECP/C3 cylindrical roller bearing used?

The NU305 ECP/C3 cylindrical roller bearing acts as a non-locating bearing in rolling bearing arrangements where only radial loads are present and axial shaft displacement must be compensated for. As the inner ring has no flanges, the shaft moves relative to the housing without axial constraint forces. The open bearing is designed for applications where lubrication and sealing are provided externally via the housing.

What do the designations ECP and C3 mean for this bearing?

The suffixes describe specific features: the abbreviation ECP stands for an optimised internal design with a lightweight polyamide cage, which ensures smooth running. The abbreviation C3 indicates a slightly increased radial bearing clearance compared with the standard version. This increased operating clearance prevents stress build-up when operating temperatures between –30 and +120 degrees cause the shaft to expand, or when tight fits reduce the radial clearance.

What are the dimensions of the NU305 ECP/C3 cylindrical roller bearing?

The dimensions are 25 mm bore diameter, 62 mm outer diameter and 17 mm width. These standardised key dimensions allow the component to be fitted precisely into existing housing bores and onto suitable shaft sections.

What is the function of the NU design?

In the NU design, the outer ring guides the rollers between two fixed flanges, whilst the inner ring has no flanges. This geometry allows for axial displacement of the shaft in both directions relative to the bearing housing. Consequently, this single-row bearing functions exclusively as a non-locating bearing designed to accommodate purely radial forces, with no axial load-carrying capacity.

Why is the C3 bearing clearance appropriate for this bearing?

The increased radial bearing clearance C3 provides more internal clearance between the rollers and raceways than a standard bearing. This is advantageous when tight fits cause the rings to expand or when temperature differences arise between the shaft and the housing. This ensures low-friction operation without thermal distortion, even when the bearing heats up.

What are the key features of the polyamide cage?

The polyamide cage is characterised by its low weight, elasticity and good running characteristics. It dampens mechanical vibrations and guides the cylindrical rollers with precision. The permissible temperature range for this cage material and the bearing is between -30 and +120 degrees Celsius.

Does the open cylindrical roller bearing need to be sealed separately?

Yes, as this cylindrical roller bearing does not have integrated seals, protection must be provided by the surrounding structure. External shaft seals or labyrinth seals in the housing prevent the ingress of dirt and moisture. At the same time, they help to ensure that the necessary lubricant remains on the raceways.

What are the bearing’s tolerance classes?

This bearing combines dimensional accuracy to Class P0 or Standard (ABEC 1) with improved running accuracy to Class P6 (ABEC 3). Whilst the mounting dimensions comply with standardised manufacturing tolerances, the improved concentricity ensures smoother running of the rolling elements on the shaft.
