The SKF NU2320 ECP cylindrical roller bearing (100x215x73 mm) is a single-row non-locating bearing that accommodates high radial loads and allows for axial movement of the shaft.
The NU2320 ECP cylindrical roller bearing is a single-row roller bearing designed for industrial applications involving high radial loads. This open roller bearing has a bore of 100 mm, an outside diameter of 215 mm and a width of 73 mm. In the SKF Explorer version, the design features an optimised internal geometry. In the NU design, the outer ring has two fixed flanges, whilst the inner ring is flangeless. This allows the inner ring to be removed from both sides, which facilitates the separate assembly of the shaft and housing.
This cylindrical roller bearing is primarily used as a non-locating bearing when pure radial forces are to be supported. As the inner ring has no flanges, the shaft and ring slide freely relative to one another during thermal linear expansion. Typical applications include shaft mountings where components experience axial movement due to loads or temperature changes. The open bearing design allows for targeted lubrication with oil or grease via the machine housing.
The integrated polyamide cage guides the cylindrical rollers evenly within the raceway. The material dampens vibrations and is suitable for operating temperatures ranging from –30 to +120 degrees. In the design, dimensional accuracy to tolerance class P0 (ABEC 1) and the increased running accuracy P6 (ABEC 3) must be taken into account. As the bearing is manufactured without an integrated seal, sealing is provided by the surrounding housing structure.
With an internal diameter of 100 mm, an external diameter of 215 mm and a width of 73 mm, the bearing requires a clearly defined installation space. Thanks to its single-row roller arrangement, the roller bearing can transmit high radial forces. These main dimensions serve as the starting point for the design of the shaft and housing seat.
As a NU-type loose bearing, the bearing has two fixed guide flanges on the outer ring, whilst the inner ring has no flanges. This allows the inner ring to be moved axially in both directions or removed completely. This design compensates for changes in the shaft’s length during operation without applying axial forces.
With a temperature range of -30 to +120 degrees, the bearing is designed for thermally demanding operating environments. This operating range is limited, amongst other things, by the material of the polyamide cage. When selecting the lubricant for the housing, care must be taken to ensure that the oil or grease is specified for the same temperature range.
As an open bearing, this version does not feature any factory-fitted sealing washers. This allows designers to choose between lubrication with grease or circulating oil, depending on the specific requirements of the plant. Protection against dust and moisture in this design is provided by external sealing elements in the surrounding bearing housing.
This combines dimensional accuracy of class P0 or ABEC 1 with improved running accuracy to P6 or ABEC 3. The dimensions for the bore and outer ring comply with the current standard, whilst the concentricity adheres to tighter tolerances. This ensures smooth shaft operation at higher speeds.
The ‘SKF Explorer’ designation indicates an optimised internal design of the cylindrical roller bearing. The roller profiles and raceways are geometrically matched to distribute loads evenly. Combined with the standard radial clearance, this results in stable operational behaviour under defined installation conditions.
