The SKF NU2318 ECJ cylindrical roller bearing is a separable bearing designed for high radial loads, with main dimensions of 90 x 190 x 64 mm.
As a single-row radial roller bearing, the NU2318 ECJ can withstand very high radial loads. With a bore of 90 mm, an outside diameter of 190 mm and a width of 64 mm, this unit is ideal for heavy-duty shaft mountings. The manufacturer, SKF, produces the bearing with an optimised internal design and a guided sheet steel cage. As this is an open design without sealing washers, you can integrate the rolling bearing directly into a site-supplied lubrication system using oil or grease.
This single-row cylindrical roller bearing is particularly suitable for bearing arrangements subject to purely radial loads and requiring axial length compensation. Typical applications include gearboxes and industrial drive systems where shafts shift due to thermal expansion. Due to the line contact of the cylindrical rollers, the bearing can accommodate high transverse forces. As the NU design does not accommodate axial forces, designers usually combine this floating bearing with a separate fixed bearing.
The NU design is characterised by two fixed flanges on the outer ring and a flangeless inner ring. This allows the inner ring to be removed from both sides, which facilitates separate mounting on the shaft and in the housing. The bearing compensates for axial displacement of the shaft without constraint between the rollers and the inner ring raceway. The cylindrical roller bearing has standard radial clearance and dimensional accuracy to tolerance class P0 with enhanced P6 running accuracy. The permissible temperature range is from –30 to +150 degrees.
The bearing has an inner diameter of 90 mm, an outer diameter of 190 mm and a width of 64 mm. With these dimensions, the roller bearing is designed for highly loaded bearing positions where high radial forces act on the shaft.
In the NU design, the outer ring guides the rollers between two fixed flanges, whilst the inner ring has no flanges. This allows the inner ring to be removed from both sides, which simplifies assembly and disassembly. At the same time, the bearing acts purely as a non-locating bearing, compensating for thermal length changes in the shaft.
The abbreviation ECJ refers to an optimised internal design for improved load transmission, as well as a sheet steel cage. This sheet steel cage keeps the cylindrical rollers spaced apart, reduces friction and is characterised by low rotating masses during operation.
The permissible temperature range for the bearing is between -30 and +150 degrees. This range assumes that the lubricant used and the external housing seals are designed for the relevant operating temperature, as the open bearing itself does not have any integrated sealing elements.
The dimensional accuracy of the bearing complies with the standard tolerance class P0 or ABEC 1. In terms of running accuracy, this design meets the tighter tolerance class P6 or ABEC 3. This combination ensures precise concentricity during operation, whilst maintaining standardised mounting dimensions for the adjacent structure.
As this model is manufactured without integrated seals and without a groove or lubrication bore in the outer ring, lubrication is provided via the surrounding structure. The bearing can be lubricated with either lubricating oil or rolling-element bearing grease, with external seals protecting against the ingress of contaminants.
