The FAG NU218 -E-XL-TVP2 cylindrical roller bearing, with dimensions of 90x160x30 mm, can withstand high radial loads and functions as a separable idler bearing.
The NU218 -E-XL-TVP2 cylindrical roller bearing is a single-row radial roller bearing for industrial assemblies subject to high transverse forces. Thanks to the line contact between the rollers and raceways, the design is suitable for heavy radial loads. This open roller bearing from FAG has an internal diameter of 90 mm, an external diameter of 160 mm and a width of 30 mm.
This floating bearing is primarily suitable for mounting positions where thermally induced changes in shaft length must be compensated for without constraint. As the inner ring is flangeless on both sides and therefore completely removable, the shaft shifts axially relative to the housing during operation. The open component is integrated directly into the lubrication system of the surrounding structure and is supplied with oil or grease.
The designation TVP2 indicates a polyamide cage that guides the rolling elements. This material reduces the component’s weight compared with metal cages and is characterised by good emergency running properties and quiet operation. The bearing covers an operating temperature range from -30 to +120 degrees. As the outer ring has neither lubrication grooves nor bore holes, the lubricant is supplied from the side to the open roller sets.
The bearing has a bore of 90 mm, an outer diameter of 160 mm and a width of 30 mm. These dimensions comply with the standardised metric size series. The component is designed as an open version without integrated grinding or cover seals.
The NU design denotes a non-locating bearing in which the outer ring has two fixed flanges, whilst the inner ring has no flanges. This allows the inner ring to be removed from either side. During operation, the shaft can move axially within the bearing as a result of thermal expansion without causing any undue stresses.
The model is manufactured with standard radial bearing clearance. This standard clearance provides the necessary clearance between the rolling elements and raceways during operation, assuming standard fit selections and moderate operating temperatures. However, special installation conditions involving high heat generation or a very tight fit may, in some circumstances, require designs with increased bearing clearance.
The permissible operating temperature range is from -30 to +120 degrees. The upper temperature limit is primarily determined by the polyamide cage used. In the event of sustained thermal stresses exceeding 120 degrees, users should opt for alternative cage materials such as brass or sheet steel.
The bearing complies with tolerance class P0 or PN, which corresponds to class ABEC 1 in the Anglo-American region. This standard tolerance meets the usual requirements in general mechanical engineering and ensures dimensional interchangeability in accordance with ISO standards.
The outer ring is manufactured without a circumferential groove or lubrication bore, as the design is intended to be lubricated from the end face. In open cylindrical roller bearings, the lubricant reaches the cage and rollers directly via the housing or adjacent lubrication nozzles. This simplifies the bearing mounting in the housing.
