The FAG NU208 -E-M1 cylindrical roller bearing is a single-row idler bearing with a brass cage (40 × 80 × 18 mm) designed for radial loads at operating temperatures ranging from -30 to +150 °C.
The NU208 -E-M1 cylindrical roller bearing is a single-row radial roller bearing from FAG with the main dimensions of 40 mm bore diameter, 80 mm outer diameter and 18 mm width. Thanks to its cylindrical rollers, this design primarily accommodates high radial forces. As an open rolling bearing without an integrated seal, the component is designed for lubricated systems. The design features standard radial clearance and meets standard requirements in industrial mechanical engineering.
Bearing arrangements subject to purely radial loads primarily use this design as a non-locating bearing. As the inner ring can be removed from both sides, the component allows for frictionless longitudinal compensation of shafts during thermal expansion. The split design also facilitates installation in confined spaces. As an open bearing, lubrication is supplied directly via the lubrication circuit of the surrounding structure.
The solid brass cage guides the cylindrical rollers and withstands high mechanical loads and vibrations. The permissible temperature range is between –30 and +150 °C. In the NU design, the outer ring has two fixed guide flanges, whilst the flangeless inner ring can be fitted flexibly. With tolerance class P0 (ABEC 1), the bearing unit meets the standard requirements for industrial use.
The dimensions are 40 mm bore diameter, 80 mm outside diameter and 18 mm width. Thanks to these standardised key dimensions, the bearing unit can be fitted into suitable housing bores and onto corresponding shaft seats. The dimensions comply with the standard series for single-row cylindrical roller bearings used in industrial machinery.
The designation NU refers to a non-locating bearing whose outer ring has two fixed guide flanges, whilst the inner ring is manufactured without flanges. This allows the inner ring to be removed from either side. During operation, the shaft can move axially relative to the housing, thereby preventing stress caused by thermal linear expansion.
The suffix M1 denotes a solid brass cage, which guides the rolling elements with precision. Brass cages offer high mechanical stability in the presence of vibrations or dynamic loads. Furthermore, the material is designed for the specified temperature range of -30 to +150 °C and is suitable for demanding operating environments.
The permissible operating range for this cylindrical roller bearing is between -30 and +150 °C. As this is an open design without abiding sealing lips, the thermal operating limits are primarily determined by the lubricant selected. The lubricating oil or rolling-element bearing grease used must be suitable for the respective operating temperature.
The bearing is manufactured to the standard tolerance class P0, also known as PN, which corresponds to the ABEC 1 standard. This tolerance class specifies the permissible deviations for dimensions, shape and running accuracy. It meets the standard requirements for general mechanical engineering.
The standard radial bearing clearance refers to the factory-set clearance between the rollers and the raceways when the bearing is unloaded. This dimensioning ensures that, after the rings have been pressed onto the shaft and housing, and subject to normal operating heat build-up, there remains sufficient clearance to allow the bearing to run smoothly without seizing.
