The SKF NUP208 ECP cylindrical roller bearing is an open, fixed bearing with main dimensions of 40x80x18 mm, designed to accommodate high radial loads.
This single-row NUP208 ECP cylindrical roller bearing features the SKF Explorer performance class with an optimised internal design. With a bore of 40 mm, an outer diameter of 80 mm and a width of 18 mm, this design transmits high transverse forces thanks to the line contact of the rollers. The bearing has a standard radial clearance and an outer ring without a groove or lubrication bore. As it is designed as an open bearing, lubrication is supplied directly via the surrounding housing system.
The NUP design features fixed flanges on both bearing rings and a loose flange disc on the inner ring. As a result, the unit guides the shaft axially in both directions and performs the function of a conventional fixed bearing. In combination with floating bearings, the overall system reliably compensates for thermally induced changes in the length of the shaft. Typical areas of application include demanding industrial applications and shaft guides where axial guidance and high radial load-carrying capacity are required.
The polyamide cage reduces the moving mass within the rolling element set and promotes quiet operation. The permissible temperature range extends from –30 to +120 degrees Celsius, enabling the cage to withstand standard industrial requirements. In combination with the Explorer design and the higher running accuracy of Class P6 or ABEC 3, the bearing generates low friction during operation. During assembly, care must be taken to ensure that the mating surfaces on the shaft and housing are clean and that a suitable external seal is fitted.
With an internal diameter of 40 mm, an external diameter of 80 mm and a width of 18 mm, the bearing has standardised key dimensions. These standardised dimensions enable it to be fitted precisely into housing bores and onto corresponding shaft seats in mechanical engineering.
A characteristic feature of the NUP design is the presence of two fixed flanges on the outer ring, as well as one fixed flange and one loose flange disc on the inner ring. Thanks to this arrangement, the bearing accommodates not only radial forces but also axial guidance forces in both directions, and acts as a fixed bearing within the system.
The cage is made of polyamide, as indicated by the suffix ECP. This material is characterised by its low weight and good damping properties, and is designed for an operating temperature range of -30 to +120 degrees Celsius.
The dimensional accuracy complies with standard class P0 or Normal (PN) and ABEC 1. In terms of running accuracy, the bearing meets the tighter tolerance class P6 or ABEC 3. This combination ensures precise concentricity of the shaft with conventional fit tolerances for the connecting components.
As an open roller bearing, the unit does not have any integrated sealing washers. Lubrication with grease or oil must be carried out via the housing chamber of the assembly. At the same time, external shaft seals or labyrinth seals on the machine protect the interior from the ingress of dirt and moisture.
Normal radial bearing clearance, often referred to as CN, describes the radial clearance of the rollers between the raceways in their initial state. It is designed for standard fit combinations and typical operating temperatures, so that a safe residual clearance is maintained after the bearing has been pressed onto the shaft.
