The SKF NJ2207 ECP cylindrical roller bearing, measuring 35x72x23 mm, withstands high radial loads and supports shafts axially in one direction.
The NJ2207 ECP cylindrical roller bearing is a single-row radial roller bearing from SKF’s Explorer performance class. The design features an optimised internal structure and a lightweight polyamide cage to guide the cylindrical rollers. Thanks to the line contact between the rolling elements and the raceways, the design can withstand high radial loads. As an open bearing, the design is rated for operating temperatures from -30 to +120 degrees and requires suitable lubrication via the adjacent structure.
As an NJ-type support bearing, this roller bearing absorbs radial loads and transmits axial forces from one direction via the fixed flange on the inner ring. In the opposite direction, the bearing arrangement allows for axial displacement of the shaft, thereby compensating for thermal expansion. This design is suitable for applications in mechanical engineering where shafts need to be axially guided on one side and radially supported. The inner ring, which can be removed from one side, facilitates the assembly of the separate bearing rings.
The integrated polyamide cage is characterised by its low weight and favourable sliding properties, which reduce friction losses and promote smooth running. The Explorer design from SKF combines dimensional accuracy to tolerance class P0 (ABEC 1) with increased running accuracy of class P6 (ABEC 3). This makes the bearing suitable for industrial applications with normal radial clearance. The bearing’s permissible temperature range is from -30 to +120 degrees.
This bearing has a cylindrical bore of 35 mm, an outer diameter of 72 mm and a total width of 23 mm. The outer ring has no lubrication groove or bore, which is why the lubricant must be supplied via the bearing environment by design.
The designation NJ denotes a thrust bearing with two fixed flanges on the outer ring and one flange on the inner ring. This arrangement allows the bearing to accommodate unidirectional axial forces in addition to high radial loads. There is axial displacement on the opposite side. Furthermore, the inner ring can be removed from one side to allow separate assembly of the shaft and housing.
The component is designed for a temperature range of -30 to +120 degrees. The upper limit is determined by the thermal stability of the polyamide cage and the resistance of the lubricant used. As this is an open design without integrated seals, adjacent machine seals must protect the bearing from contamination.
The standard radial bearing clearance refers to the manufacturing-related radial play between the rollers and the raceways when the bearing is unloaded. It is dimensioned such that, once the rings have been fitted and under normal operating temperatures, proper concentricity is maintained without any impermissible preload.
The bearing combines dimensional accuracy to P0 standard tolerance (equivalent to ABEC 1) with enhanced running accuracy of class P6 (equivalent to ABEC 3). Whilst the mounting dimensions comply with standardised tolerance ranges, the bearing runs more smoothly during operation and with lower radial runout, which reduces wear on adjacent machine components.
Open roller bearings are not pre-lubricated with grease at the factory. Lubrication with a suitable rolling-element bearing grease or oil is essential prior to commissioning. As the outer ring has no relubrication groove, the lubricant must be applied from the side via the housing or through a lubrication hole on the inside.
