The SKF NJ2204 ECP cylindrical roller bearing, with dimensions of 20x47x18 mm, offers high radial load-carrying capacity and axial guidance in one direction.
This SKF NJ2204 ECP cylindrical roller bearing is a single-row radial roller bearing with an optimised internal design in the Explorer series. The bearing primarily accommodates heavy radial loads and provides axial guidance to the shaft in one direction via the flanges. The inner ring, which can be removed from one side, allows the open bearing to be fitted separately. In industrial drives and shaft mountings, it serves as a compact support bearing at operating temperatures ranging from -30 to +120 degrees.
The NJ design features two fixed flanges on the outer ring and one fixed flange on the inner ring. This makes the bearing suitable for accommodating unidirectional axial forces in addition to high radial loads. In the opposite direction, the design allows for axial displacement, ensuring that thermal length changes in the shaft do not lead to internal stresses. Common applications include mechanical engineering and industrial powertrains, where precise guidance and ease of disassembly are required for installation.
The suffix ECP denotes a lightweight polyamide cage which precisely guides the cylindrical rollers and helps to reduce friction. Together with the standard radial bearing clearance, this design is intended for typical operating temperatures and standardised mounting fits. As this is an open bearing without an integrated seal, the bearing housing must be sealed via the casing and supplied with a suitable lubricant. Dimensional accuracy complies with tolerance class P0 or ABEC 1, whilst running accuracy of P6 or ABEC 3 ensures quiet operation.
The cylindrical roller bearing has an inner diameter of 20 mm, an outer diameter of 47 mm and a width of 18 mm. These standardised key dimensions enable it to be fitted precisely into standardised housings and onto corresponding shaft seats. The outer ring has neither a ring groove nor lubrication holes.
The abbreviation NJ refers to a design with two fixed flanges on the outer ring and one flange on the inner ring. This enables the unit to function as a support bearing that accommodates radial loads and supports axial forces in one direction. On the other side, there is axial displacement to compensate for changes in length.
The permissible operating temperature range is between -30 and +120 degrees. The main limiting factor here is the polyamide cage, the material of which retains its dimensional stability within this temperature range. Make sure you choose a lubricant that covers this temperature range during operation.
The inner ring can be removed from one side, as the rollers are guided within the outer ring by the cage. This feature makes it considerably easier to fit and remove the bearing assembly, as the inner and outer rings can be pressed onto the shaft and housing separately before the assembly is joined together.
The bearing combines two levels of precision: its dimensional accuracy complies with the standard tolerance class P0 (equivalent to ABEC 1), whilst its running accuracy is manufactured to the tighter tolerance class P6 (ABEC 3). This combination ensures smooth, low-vibration operation of the shaft whilst offering universal compatibility.
