The SKF NJ208 ECP cylindrical roller bearing, with a 40 mm bore, 80 mm outer diameter and a polyamide cage, offers high radial load-carrying capacity in a compact design.
The SKF NJ208 ECP cylindrical roller bearing is a single-row rolling bearing in the Explorer design with an optimised internal structure. The design is primarily intended to accommodate high radial loads. Thanks to solid flanges on the outer ring and the inner ring, which can be removed from one side, this variant functions as a support bearing. With key dimensions of 40 mm inner diameter, 80 mm outer diameter and 18 mm width, this open bearing is suitable for applications in general mechanical engineering.
This bearing is suitable for bearing arrangements subject to high radial loads which must also accommodate one-sided axial forces. Typical applications include shaft mountings subjected to combined loads. As the NJ design allows for axial displacement of the shaft in one direction, it easily compensates for thermal length changes. This prevents unacceptable stresses in the overall system and promotes smooth running under variable operating conditions.
The polyamide cage in the ECP version reduces the moving mass in the rolling element set and supports favourable running characteristics within a temperature range of -30 to +120 degrees Celsius. Dimensional accuracy complies with class P0 (ABEC 1), whilst running accuracy to P6 (ABEC 3) is designed to ensure precise roller guidance. As the outer ring is manufactured without a groove or lubrication bore, the lubricant is supplied directly via the installation space in the housing.
The bore is exactly 40 mm, the outer diameter is 80 mm and the overall width is 18 mm. These standardised key dimensions allow for direct installation in suitable housings and on cylindrical shaft seats, making the bearing ideal for compact machine designs.
Cylindrical roller bearings of the NJ type have two fixed flanges on the outer ring and one fixed flange on the inner ring. This enables the bearing to accommodate both radial and axial forces in one direction. The inner ring can be removed from one side, which facilitates the separate assembly of the shaft and housing.
The model is supplied with standard radial bearing clearance. This standard setting is suitable for typical fit selections on shafts and housings, as well as for applications with a balanced temperature profile. It provides a balance between guiding accuracy and smooth running of the rollers.
The operating temperature range is from -30 to +120 degrees Celsius. This limit is determined by the material properties of the polyamide cage and the thermal stability of the bearing rings. For applications within these limits, reliable guidance of the cylindrical rollers is ensured.
Open cylindrical roller bearings do not have integrated seals. External sealing elements are therefore incorporated into the housing design, such as shaft seals or labyrinth seals, to prevent the ingress of dirt. Suitable housing seals also keep the lubricant within the bearing area.
The bearing is manufactured to a dimensional accuracy of P0 or ABEC 1. Its running accuracy achieves a tighter tolerance range of P6 or ABEC 3. This combination ensures smooth roller operation with standardised fitting accuracy for installation on shafts and in housing bores.
