SKF N209 ECP single-row cylindrical roller bearing with a 45 mm bore, 85 mm outer diameter and a polyamide cage for radial support in mechanical engineering.
The SKF N209 ECP cylindrical roller bearing, as a single-row rolling bearing, can withstand high radial loads. With dimensions of a 45 mm bore, 85 mm outer diameter and 19 mm width, the component fits into standardised housings. The SKF Explorer version features an optimised internal design. As the bearing is of open design, lubricant reaches the rolling elements and raceways directly.
In shaft mountings, this design serves as a floating bearing, where the flangeless outer ring can be removed from both sides. This allows the rolling bearing to compensate for axial length changes in the rotating shaft during operation without any constraint. It is used in mountings subject to purely radial loads. The design counteracts axial stresses between the bearing positions and facilitates assembly thanks to the rings being fitted separately.
The polyamide cage guides the cylindrical rollers with low friction and is suitable for operating temperatures ranging from –30 to +120 degrees Celsius. The manufacturing process combines dimensional accuracy to tolerance class Normal (P0 or ABEC 1) with finer running accuracy to class P6 (ABEC 3). This reduced runout deviation ensures smooth running. When designing the application, it is important to ensure that the open bearing is protected from dirt by housing seals.
With a bore of 45 mm, an outer diameter of 85 mm and a width of 19 mm, the bearing complies with the standardised main dimensions. The outer ring has no lubrication groove or lubrication bore, which is why lubricant must be supplied via the surrounding housing structure.
The N design is characterised by two solid flanges on the inner ring and a flangeless outer ring. The outer ring can be removed from either side. Consequently, this bearing cannot accommodate axial forces, but serves exclusively as a floating bearing to compensate for thermal linear expansion of the shaft.
This roller bearing is designed for operating temperatures between -30 and +120 degrees Celsius. This range is determined by the polyamide cage used. When selecting a grease or lubricating oil, care must be taken to ensure that the chosen lubricant also covers these temperature limits.
Dimensional accuracy complies with Class P0 or ABEC 1, whilst running accuracy is manufactured to P6 or ABEC 3. The fit dimensions for the shaft and housing therefore comply with the standard, whilst the tighter running tolerance ensures reduced runout errors when the shaft is rotating.
As the bearing is supplied without sealing washers, the interior is directly accessible for oil or grease lubrication. You must ensure that suitable external seals are fitted in the surrounding structure so that the lubricant remains within the bearing and no dirt particles or moisture can reach the cylindrical rollers.
The bearing has standard radial clearance. This standard clearance is intended for typical fit specifications on the shaft and housing, as well as for standard temperature differences between the inner and outer rings. Increased clearance, such as C3, is not required under normal installation conditions.
