The FAG NU2204 -E-XL-TVP2 cylindrical roller bearing offers high radial load-carrying capacity with compact dimensions of 20 × 47 × 18 mm for demanding industrial applications.
The FAG NU2204 -E-XL-TVP2 cylindrical roller bearing is a single-row rolling bearing designed for assemblies subject to significant radial forces. Thanks to the line contact between the cylindrical rollers and the raceways, this design can accommodate high radial loads. With a bore of 20 mm, an outer diameter of 47 mm and a width of 18 mm, this open bearing fits precisely into compact housings. Industrial shaft mountings utilise the high rigidity of the design to ensure precise guidance.
This cylindrical roller bearing is designed purely as a non-locating bearing. The outer ring has two fixed flanges to guide the roller set, whilst the inner ring is flangeless and can be removed from either side. As a result, the bearing assembly compensates for axial changes in shaft length caused by thermal expansion without any constraint within the bearing. Typical applications are found in mechanical engineering in shaft designs where defined radial support is required without axial preload.
The integrated polyamide cage guides the rolling elements with low vibration and keeps the bearing’s own weight to a minimum. The permissible temperature range is from –30 to +120 degrees Celsius, which must be taken into account when selecting the lubricant. As this is an open bearing without integrated sealing washers, it must be used in a protected environment. Grease or lubricating oil must be protected from contamination and moisture ingress by external housing seals.
In the NU design, the outer ring guides the rollers between two fixed flanges, whilst the inner ring has no flanges. This allows the inner ring to be removed from both sides, which facilitates the separate assembly of the shaft and housing. At the same time, the design acts as a floating bearing, accommodating thermal linear expansion of the shaft without causing axial stress.
The dimensions are 20 mm bore diameter, 47 mm outer diameter and 18 mm width. These standardised key dimensions enable a precise fit when installed in defined housing seats and on corresponding shaft journals. Thanks to its compact geometry, this design is suitable for space-saving constructions in industrial mechanical engineering.
The suffix TVP2 indicates a polyamide cage. This material is characterised by good damping properties and low inertia. Compared with heavier metal cages, the polyamide cage promotes quiet running and contributes to smooth operation during dynamic speed changes.
The permissible operating temperature range is between -30 and +120 degrees Celsius. Both the dimensional accuracy of the rolling elements and the thermal stability of the polyamide cage are designed to suit this range. For reliable operation, it is recommended to use a lubricant whose viscosity and thermal stability fall within these limits.
As an open bearing, this design does not feature conventional cover plates or sealing washers. This open design allows for direct lubrication via the machine’s existing lubrication system, such as in the case of circulating oil or immersion lubrication. To protect the bearing from particles and moisture, an external seal must be fitted in the housing.
Normal radial bearing clearance refers to the bearing clearance set at the factory in the unassembled, as-manufactured condition. This internal clearance between the rollers and raceways is dimensioned such that, after the bearing rings have been pressed onto the shaft and housing, low-friction operation is maintained at normal operating temperatures without any impermissible radial stresses.
