The SKF N307 ECP cylindrical roller bearing is a single-row non-locating bearing with a polyamide cage and a separable outer ring, measuring 35x80x21 mm.
As a single-row roller bearing, the SKF N307 ECP cylindrical roller bearing can withstand high radial loads. Thanks to its cylindrical rollers, this design offers a line-contact surface, which increases rigidity compared with ball bearings. The design as a non-locating bearing allows for axial length changes directly within the bearing housing. In the SKF Explorer version, the bearing unit benefits from an optimised internal design that reduces friction and promotes smooth running.
Design engineers primarily use this cylindrical roller bearing where high radial loads occur at medium to high speeds and thermal linear expansion of the shaft needs to be compensated for. Typical applications are found in general mechanical engineering on rotating shafts that require free axial movement. As the outer ring can be removed from both sides, the component functions purely as a non-locating bearing. It guides the shaft radially but does not absorb any axial forces, thereby helping to prevent mechanical stress in the drive train.
In the N design, the guide flanges are located on the inner ring, whilst the outer ring has no flanges. This simplifies the separate assembly of both rings and facilitates maintenance work on the bearing assembly. The lightweight polyamide cage guides the rollers quietly and reduces inertial forces. An operating temperature range of -30 to +120 degrees is permitted. As this is an open bearing without an integrated seal, the system requires an external housing seal and a lubricant supply.
This bearing has a bore of 35 mm, an outer diameter of 80 mm and a width of 21 mm. It is a single-row cylindrical roller bearing in a compact design. The precise main dimensions enable it to be fitted accurately into standardised housing bores and onto corresponding shaft seats in mechanical engineering applications.
The designation ‘N’ refers to a cylindrical roller bearing whose inner ring has two fixed flanges, whilst the outer ring has no flanges. This allows the outer ring to be moved axially on both sides and removed. The design functions as a conventional floating bearing, which compensates for thermally induced changes in the shaft’s length within the bearing without any constraint.
In this model, the designation ‘ECP’ indicates an optimised internal design and a polyamide cage. This lightweight plastic cage guides the rolling elements quietly and reduces inertial forces during changes in rotational speed. In combination with the Explorer version, this design ensures even load distribution across the entire raceway.
As an open bearing, this model does not have any factory-fitted sealing washers. The user tailors the lubrication – using oil or grease – to suit the surrounding machine housing. An external housing seal is required to prevent the ingress of dirt particles and to keep the lubricant within the rolling element area.
For this model, dimensional accuracy is specified to Class P0 or ABEC 1. Running accuracy corresponds to the tighter tolerance class P6 or ABEC 3. This combination ensures a standardised fit of the rings whilst also improving concentricity during operation.
The permissible temperature range is between -30 and +120 degrees Celsius. This range is largely determined by the polyamide cage and the material composition of the bearing rings. When determining the operating temperature, you should also take into account the thermal operating limits of the selected lubricant.
