The FAG 20213 -K-TVP-C3 spherical roller bearing, with dimensions of 65 × 120 × 23 mm, a tapered bore and C3 clearance, reliably compensates for misalignment.
The 20213 -K-TVP-C3 spherical roller bearing is a single-row rolling bearing designed for high radial loads whilst accommodating angular misalignment of the shaft. With a bore of 65 mm, an outer diameter of 120 mm and a width of 23 mm, the barrel-shaped row of rollers accommodates angular misalignments between the shaft and the housing. Maintenance engineers and designers value this design, which complies with tolerance class P0 (ABEC 1), as it effectively absorbs shock loads during continuous industrial operation.
This bearing type is primarily used where elastic shaft deflection or misalignment occurs as a result of the design. Thanks to its spherical outer raceway, the bearing automatically compensates for misalignment. When combined with suitable housings, the unit performs reliably in demanding bearing locations. The open design without seals allows for a lubricant supply – either grease or oil – as required via the surrounding housing structure.
The tapered inner bore, designated K (1:12 taper), simplifies mounting on a shrink sleeve or a stepped shaft. During radial press-fitting, the radial clearance is measurably reduced. This is where the increased C3 bearing clearance comes into play: It helps to ensure that sufficient residual bearing clearance is maintained after the inner ring has been tightened and following operational heating. The polyamide cage (TVP) reduces the component’s weight and operates quietly within a temperature range of -30 to +120 degrees.
Single-row spherical roller bearings of this design combine the high radial load-carrying capacity of roller bearings with the angular misalignment compensation of self-aligning bearings. They automatically compensate for elastic shaft deflection and misalignment of the bearing housings without causing disruptive edge stresses on the roller raceways.
The bearing has an internal diameter of 65 mm, an external diameter of 120 mm and an axial width of 23 mm. Thanks to the standardised tolerance class P0 (equivalent to ABEC 1), the design is suitable for direct replacement during repair and maintenance work in mechanical engineering.
The abbreviation ‘K’ refers to a tapered bore with a standard taper of 1:12. This internal geometry allows for secure mounting using a clamping or withdrawal sleeve on solid shafts without a fixed shoulder. Furthermore, the tapered fit facilitates backlash-free adjustment during installation.
The designation C3 indicates an increased radial bearing clearance compared with the standard version. When the tapered inner ring is slid onto the bearing seat, it expands radially, which reduces the operating clearance. The C3 bearing clearance counteracts this effect and prevents the bearing from becoming stressed when it reaches operating temperature.
The polyamide cage is characterised by low friction and quiet operation. The material absorbs shocks in the rolling element set and reduces the bearing’s mass. The design is intended for continuous use within a temperature range of -30 to +120 degrees.
As the bearing is supplied from the factory without integrated sliding or lip seals, lubrication takes place via the housing environment. Depending on the speed and operating conditions, operators use greases or lubricating oils, whilst external sealing lips or labyrinth seals on the housing protect against dirt and moisture.
