The SKF 29256 axial self-aligning roller bearing accommodates heavy single-direction axial loads with a bore of 280 mm, an outside diameter of 380 mm and a width of 60 mm.
The SKF 29256 axial self-aligning roller bearing is suitable for demanding industrial applications involving single-sided axial forces. The design, made from standard 100Cr6 rolling-element bearing steel, is characterised by its angular contact configuration, which enables the bearing to compensate for misalignment or shaft deflection during operation. Manufactured to tolerance class P0 or ABEC 1, this bearing meets industrial requirements for fitting accuracy. Technical purchasers and maintenance engineers use this design for heavy-duty bearing applications in mechanical engineering.
This axial bearing is used in applications that require very high axial loads in a single direction. Thanks to the hollow spherical raceway of the housing disc, the design automatically compensates for misalignment between the shaft and housing, as well as dynamic shaft deflection. In addition to the dominant axial forces, the bearing can also accommodate radial loads. Typical applications include heavily loaded vertical shafts and industrial drive trains with high unilateral thrust forces, where compensation for angular misalignment is required.
The integrated solid brass cage provides the rolling element set with high mechanical stability and guides the rollers in an orderly manner even under high acceleration. Brass is characterised by favourable sliding properties and resistance to vibrations. In combination with the hardened 100Cr6 bearing steel, this design covers an operating temperature range from -30 to +200 degrees. Design engineers should take the minimum axial load into account during design to ensure that the rollers run without slippage on the raceways.
The main dimensions of the bearing are a bore diameter of 280 mm, an outside diameter of 380 mm and a height or width of 60 mm. These standardised dimensions enable a precise replacement during maintenance work or new designs in heavy-duty industrial applications.
This bearing is designed to act in one direction and primarily absorbs high axial forces from a defined direction. Due to the angled rollers, it can also absorb radial forces provided there is a sufficient axial load. This design is not intended for alternating axial loads without a counter-bearing.
The internal geometry features a hollow-spherical raceway in the housing disc. This allows the roller set to automatically self-align within specified limits in the event of angular misalignment, alignment inaccuracies or shaft deflection. This helps to prevent damaging edge stresses and ensures smooth running even in the event of assembly inaccuracies.
With its components made from 100Cr6 roller bearing steel and a brass cage, the bearing is specified for a temperature range of -30 to +200 degrees. To ensure reliable operation within this temperature range, the lubrication selected must be suited to the relevant ambient thermal conditions.
Tolerance class P0 (corresponding to PN or ABEC 1) defines the standard accuracy for dimensional and running error tolerances in accordance with common rolling bearing standards. It provides a tried-and-tested fit for conventional mechanical engineering, ensuring that the washers can be fitted correctly onto the shaft and into the housing.
The brass cage guides and separates the spherical rolling elements precisely along their raceway. Brass reduces wear thanks to its favourable friction properties and withstands dynamic loads and vibrations during operation. Furthermore, the cage design promotes even distribution of lubricant between the rollers and the guide flanges.
