The 29424 E axial self-aligning roller bearing (120 × 250 × 78 mm) accommodates heavy axial loads on one side and automatically compensates for angular misalignment during operation.
The SKF 29424 E axial self-aligning roller bearing is a robust rolling bearing designed for heavy axial loads whilst simultaneously accommodating radial forces. With a bore of 120 mm, an outer diameter of 250 mm and a width of 78 mm, this bearing is suitable for demanding industrial drives. The crowned rollers run on a spherical housing raceway, enabling the bearing to compensate for misalignment and shaft deflection. Manufactured from standard rolling-element bearing steel (100Cr6), the Explorer version offers an optimised internal geometry for high loads.
This single-acting bearing is used in heavy-duty industrial applications where high axial thrust forces occur. Typical applications include heavy-duty gearbox construction and bearing arrangements with vertical shaft orientation. Thanks to its angularly adjustable design, the 29424 E axial self-aligning roller bearing compensates for misalignment between the shaft and housing. As the rollers are arranged at an angle to the bearing axis, the component transfers not only the primary axial forces but also combined radial loads to the surrounding structure.
During design, operating conditions and installation circumstances determine the suitability of the components. The guided sheet steel cage keeps the rollers stable on their raceway and is suitable for operating temperatures ranging from –30 to +200 degrees. Tolerance class P0 (or ABEC 1) meets the standard accuracy requirements in general mechanical engineering. As the shaft washer and housing washer can be fitted separately, this design facilitates step-by-step installation onto the shaft and into the housing.
This roller bearing withstands very high axial loads in one direction and automatically compensates for misalignment or deflection of the shaft. It has a bore of 120 mm, an outer diameter of 250 mm and a width of 78 mm, and is part of SKF’s Explorer range.
The sheet steel cage ensures that the barrel-shaped rollers are guided securely, whilst being lightweight. It withstands mechanical stresses and is designed for a wide temperature range of -30 to +200 degrees. This helps to ensure the smooth running of the bearing under continuous heavy loads.
The component is designed for operating temperatures between -30 and +200 degrees. In addition to the 100Cr6 material, the lubricant used is the key factor determining the thermal operating limit during operation; it must be suited to the respective operating temperatures.
Single-direction axial-thrust self-aligning roller bearings can only accommodate axial forces in one direction. If alternating or opposing axial forces occur, the bearing arrangement requires a corresponding counter-bearing. In addition to the main axial forces, the component may also, depending on its design, transmit simultaneously acting radial load components.
Classification in tolerance class P0, comparable to ABEC 1, denotes the standard normal tolerance for industrial roller bearings. It defines permissible dimensional and running errors for the bore, outer diameter and radial runout. This tolerance class fully meets the requirements of most heavy-duty mechanical engineering applications.
SKF manufactures this bearing from standard rolling-element bearing steel (100Cr6). This case-hardened chrome steel is characterised by high wear resistance and fatigue strength under heavy loads. It provides a tried-and-tested material basis for use in demanding industrial drives.
