The SKF 51214 single-direction axial deep groove ball bearing accommodates purely axial loads and, with dimensions of 70x105x27 mm, fits into defined housing seats.
The 51214 axial deep-groove ball bearing is a separable rolling bearing designed to accommodate high normal forces in one direction. The assembly consists of a shaft ring with a 70 mm bore, a housing ring with an outer diameter of 105 mm, and a guided ball set. SKF manufactures the components from standard rolling-bearing steel 100Cr6 to tolerance class P0/PN (corresponding to ABEC 1). A dimensionally stable sheet steel cage keeps the rolling elements at a fixed distance apart and guides them evenly in the ground raceways.
This axial bearing is specifically designed to support thrust forces acting parallel to the axis. In general mechanical engineering, this design is used, for example, on vertical shafts to support static and dynamic loads in one direction. Due to its design, the arrangement cannot transmit radial forces. You should therefore always incorporate a separate radial bearing to centre the shaft during operation and to prevent transverse loads from acting on the discs.
As a single-direction design, the bearing supports shaft movements in only one direction. The component has a flat housing disc and does not automatically compensate for misalignment. When designing the assembly, ensure that the mating surfaces are at the correct angle, as misalignment increases the edge pressure on the rolling elements. The permissible temperature range is between –30 and +150 °C. A suitable lubricant helps to minimise friction within the cage.
The dimensions are 70 mm internal diameter at the shaft flange, 105 mm external diameter at the housing flange and 27 mm overall height. The flanges can be fitted separately, which facilitates step-by-step installation on shaft shoulders and in housing bores.
Pure axial deep-groove ball bearings transmit compressive forces exclusively in the axial direction. If radial forces occur in the system, additional radial bearings must support these loads. If radial forces act unchecked on the housing flange, this causes the rolling elements to tilt and increases wear on the sheet steel cage.
P0 and PN denote the standard tolerance for dimensional and running accuracy in accordance with rolling bearing standards, comparable to the ABEC 1 classification. This standard accuracy is suitable for common bearing arrangements in mechanical engineering where there are no increased requirements regarding minimum concentricity tolerances.
This item comprises solely the 51214 axial deep-groove ball bearing, consisting of a shaft washer, a housing washer and a ball-cage assembly. Compensating washers are not included in the scope of delivery. Due to the flat contact surface of the housing washer, the bearing is of a rigid design and requires flat, perpendicular mating surfaces.
The permissible operating temperature range is from -30 to +150 °C. The dimensional stability of the rolling elements and washers made from 100Cr6, as well as the temperature-resistant steel cage, ensure compliance with this range. Ensure that the viscosity and thermal resistance of the grease or lubricating oil used are suited to the actual operating temperature.
