The FAG 51206 axial deep-groove ball bearing, measuring 30x52x16 mm, accommodates unidirectional axial forces in mechanical engineering applications.
The FAG 51206 axial deep-groove ball bearing supports rotating shafts against axial thrust forces from one direction. Manufactured from standard rolling bearing steel 100Cr6, the assembly comprises a shaft ring, a housing ring and a guided ball set. With dimensions of a 30 mm bore, 52 mm outer diameter and 16 mm width, this rolling bearing is primarily designed to absorb axial forces. Industrial maintenance engineers and purchasers rely on this standardised design to support defined axial loads with low vibration.
This single-direction axial deep groove ball bearing 51206 is primarily suitable for designs in which purely axial forces act in one direction and no significant radial loads are applied to the axial bearing. Typical applications include vertical or horizontal shaft arrangements subject to purely axial loads. As the bearing must not be subjected to radial loads, the design usually combines this bearing type with separate radial bearings. This ensures that the axial positioning of the shaft remains dimensionally stable under load.
During assembly, the rigid geometry is crucial: the 51206 axial deep-groove ball bearing is not angle-adjustable and is sensitive to misalignment between the shaft and housing. A precisely perpendicular contact surface prevents edge stresses and uneven wear. As the product does not include a washer, the mating parts must be flat. Furthermore, the sheet steel cage keeps the rolling elements at a stable distance from one another, whilst the permissible temperature range of –30 to +150 degrees covers a wide range of operating conditions.
The bearing has an internal diameter of 30 mm (bore), an external diameter of 52 mm and a height of 16 mm. These standardised dimensions facilitate direct replacement in existing designs. The mating surfaces of the shaft and housing seat must be matched to these exact nominal dimensions so that the axial forces are distributed evenly over the entire circumference.
Single-acting designs support shaft forces exclusively from one axial direction. This component cannot accommodate loads from the opposite direction or transverse forces. If the direction of the force varies, a double-acting bearing or a second axial bearing mounted in the opposite direction must be used to ensure axial guidance in both directions.
This version is not angle-adjustable. The bearing has flat washers and requires precisely aligned contact surfaces that are perpendicular to the axis of rotation. Even slight angular misalignments or shaft deflection lead to uneven loading of the balls, which accelerates wear. Where misalignment is unavoidable, it is recommended to use designs with a spherical housing disc and a suitable shim instead.
The permissible temperature range is from -30 to +150 degrees Celsius. The integrated sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements with minimal vibration and retains its mechanical strength even under thermal stress within these limits. A lubricant must be selected for operation whose properties comply with these thermal specifications.
The component complies with standard tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1. This classification defines the permissible limit deviations for dimensional, geometric and running accuracy in industrial mechanical engineering. It is sufficient for the vast majority of technical applications where no tighter precision class is required.
The scope of supply comprises only the single-row axial deep-groove ball bearing itself, consisting of a shaft washer, a housing washer and a ball-cage assembly. Washers are not included in the scope of supply. Before installation, check whether the structure provides flat mounting surfaces or whether additional components are required to ensure the bearing is correctly seated.
