The SKF 51204 axial deep-groove ball bearing accommodates single-direction axial loads in mechanical engineering applications, with compact dimensions of 20 × 40 × 14 mm.
The 51204 axial deep groove ball bearing is a single-direction rolling bearing designed to support pure axial forces in one direction. This SKF model consists of a shaft ring, a housing ring and a guided ball and cage assembly. With dimensions of a 20 mm bore, 40 mm outside diameter and 14 mm height, the bearing guides shafts with axial precision. As it is manufactured from standard rolling bearing steel 100Cr6, the component is suitable for demanding industrial applications within a temperature range of -30 to +150 degrees Celsius.
This rolling bearing supports rotating shafts against axial forces acting from one side. Due to its design, the component must not bear radial loads. Typical applications are found in assemblies where clearly directed longitudinal forces occur and must be reliably supported. As the bearing is not angularly adjustable, installation requires precisely perpendicular contact surfaces on the shaft and housing. The integrated sheet steel cage keeps the rolling elements neatly separated from one another and ensures smooth running with uniform rotational movement.
The scope of supply includes the single-direction bearing without a washer. With standard tolerance P0 or ABEC 1, the component meets the usual precision requirements of general mechanical engineering. Before installation, check the alignment of the connecting structure, as angular misalignment can lead to edge loading and premature wear. You should also ensure that the lubrication is suitable for the temperature range of -30 to +150 degrees and that an external seal is fitted, as the bearing is designed as an open assembly.
With an internal diameter of 20 mm at the shaft flange, an external diameter of 40 mm at the housing flange and a total width of 14 mm, the bearing has standardised dimensions. These dimensions facilitate integration into suitable housing bores and shaft shoulders in industrial mechanical engineering.
As a single-direction design, the bearing accommodates only axial forces from a defined direction. Radial loads must not act on the bearing and require a separate radial bearing on the same shaft to prevent damage to the raceways and rolling elements.
The permissible operating range is between -30 and +150 degrees Celsius. Both the 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel and the sheet steel cage offer high dimensional stability within this range. For actual use, a lubricant must also be selected that is approved for the relevant ambient temperatures.
This component does not feature an angle-adjustable function. The model is supplied without a shim and has a flat housing washer. The contact surfaces in the housing and on the shaft must therefore be exactly at right angles to one another in order to prevent uneven load distribution across the balls.
The cage guides the balls evenly along their circular path and prevents direct contact between the rolling elements. This reduces friction and noise during operation. Owing to the low weight of the stamped sheet metal, the design is well suited to medium to high speeds.
Manufacturing is carried out to tolerance class P0 or PN, which corresponds to the ABEC 1 standard. This standard tolerance meets the requirements for standardised assemblies in mechanical engineering and ensures a dimensionally accurate fit on ground shafts and in drilled housing recesses.
