The SKF 7217 BECBP angular contact ball bearing, with an 85 mm bore and an outer diameter of 150 mm, provides precise guidance for combined loads.
The 7217 BECBP angular contact ball bearing is a single-row rolling bearing made from standard bearing steel (100Cr6) in SKF’s Explorer performance class. Thanks to the defined contact angle of 40 degrees, this design accommodates not only high radial forces but also unidirectional axial forces. The open bearing has an outer ring without a flange or groove and operates within a temperature range of -20 to +120 degrees. The rolling elements are guided by a lightweight polyamide cage.
The 7217 BECBP angular contact ball bearing is used where shaft guides must simultaneously transmit radial loads and single-direction axial forces. Typical applications include bearing locations with combined loads where defined axial guidance is required. As single-row angular contact ball bearings can only accommodate axial forces in one direction, they are often fitted in pairs with a second bearing mounted in the opposite direction. When mounted in an O or X configuration, the bearing pair has a small amount of axial play, which aids precise guidance of the shaft.
This rolling bearing combines dimensional accuracy to tolerance class P6 with increased running accuracy to P5. This combination reduces runout error during operation, whilst the mounting dimensions comply with the standard specification. The integrated polyamide cage ensures low inertial forces and low-vibration operation at normal radial clearance. As this is an open bearing without integrated sealing washers, the design requires an external lubricant supply as well as a housing seal to protect against contamination.
The main dimensions are 85 mm bore diameter, 150 mm outside diameter and 28 mm width. These standardised dimensions enable the design of suitable bearing seats on shafts and in housings.
The contact angle describes the inclination of the line connecting the points of contact between the balls and the raceways relative to the radial plane. An angle of 40 degrees enables the bearing to accommodate considerable axial forces in one direction, but requires a constant minimum load during operation.
As an open roller bearing without integrated seals, the component is designed to be lubricated via the unit. Depending on operational requirements, the lubricant is supplied via an external grease or oil lubrication system at the bearing location.
The polyamide cage is lightweight and ensures low-friction operation of the balls. The permissible temperature range is between -20 and +120 degrees. When using special lubricants, care must be taken to ensure chemical compatibility with polyamide.
This design combines the P6 dimensional tolerance for bores, outer diameters and widths with the tighter P5 running tolerance. This results in minimal runout deviations in the bearing rings, which enhances the guiding accuracy of rotating shafts.
When two bearings are arranged in an O or X configuration, a bearing set with low axial clearance is created. This specific pairing serves to absorb axial forces from both directions and to strictly limit the axial displacement of the shaft supported by the bearings.
