The SKF 3208 ATN9 double-row angular contact ball bearing, measuring 40 × 80 × 30.2 mm, accommodates combined radial and axial loads in both directions.
The SKF 3208 ATN9 double-row angular contact ball bearing is designed as a compact functional unit for demanding bearing applications. It features a bore of 40 mm, an outside diameter of 80 mm and a width of 30.2 mm. Manufactured from standard rolling-element bearing steel 100Cr6, this open bearing has a contact angle of 30 degrees. This enables it to accommodate radial forces as well as axial loads in both directions. The Explorer bearing version meets tolerance class P6 for dimensional accuracy and P5 for running accuracy.
This double-row bearing is used in applications where both radial guidance and axial support on both sides are required within a confined installation space. Thanks to its contact angle of 30 degrees, the bearing accommodates axial forces in both directions. Typical applications include compact industrial shaft mountings subject to combined loads. As this is an open bearing without an integrated seal, it can be integrated directly into existing housing lubrication systems or external sealing arrangements.
The designation ATN9 refers to a lightweight polyamide cage that guides the rolling elements with low vibration. In combination with the standard radial bearing clearance, the component is suitable for defined operating temperatures ranging from –20 to +120 degrees. The P6/P5 tolerance class ensures smooth concentricity for higher precision requirements. When designing the application, it is important to note that the open bearing requires a clean environment and appropriate lubrication, as dirt particles could enter the raceways unhindered.
This double-row roller bearing has an inner diameter of 40 mm, an outer diameter of 80 mm and a total width of 30.2 mm. The outer ring is cylindrical in design and has neither a flange nor a ring groove. These standardised mounting dimensions enable precise fitting onto suitable shafts and into cylindrical housing bores.
The double-row design, with a contact angle of 30 degrees, is designed for combined loads. The bearing accommodates radial forces as well as axial forces from both directions equally. Compared with single-row designs, the double-row design offers higher moment stiffness and prevents the shaft from tilting.
The suffix ATN9 describes the bearing’s cage design. It denotes a polyamide cage which guides the rolling elements and contributes to smooth running. Polyamide reduces the moving mass within the bearing and is suitable for operating temperatures between -20 and +120 degrees. Furthermore, the plastic elastically absorbs minor impacts.
The permissible temperature range for this roller bearing is between -20 and +120 degrees. This range is determined, amongst other things, by the polyamide cage used and the standard roller bearing steel 100Cr6. To ensure trouble-free operation, ensure that the lubricant and external shaft seals are suitable for this temperature range.
This classification means that the bearing adheres to tighter tolerances than is usual for standard versions. The P6 dimensional accuracy ensures minimal deviations in bore, outer diameter and width. The P5 running accuracy reduces the radial run-out and axial run-out of the rings, which minimises vibrations and improves the shaft’s guiding accuracy.
The bearing is of an open design without integrated cover plates or sealing washers. This allows the raceways and balls to be freely accessible for oil or grease lubrication from the housing. To prevent the ingress of dirt and moisture, as well as the escape of lubricant, external seals such as shaft seals must be fitted to the housing.
