The SKF 7217 BEP angular contact ball bearing, with a contact angle of 40 degrees, accommodates high unilateral axial and radial forces with dimensions of 85x150x28 mm.
The 7217 BEP angular contact ball bearing is a single-row radial rolling bearing designed for combined loads. Thanks to the diagonally opposed raceways in the inner and outer rings, the design simultaneously accommodates radial forces and axial guidance forces in one direction. SKF manufactures this open bearing from standard 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel with standard radial clearance. The component has an inside diameter of 85 mm, an outside diameter of 150 mm and a width of 28 mm.
This rolling bearing is suitable for shaft mountings where axial forces act in conjunction with radial loads. As single-row angular contact ball bearings support axial forces in one direction only, they are often mounted in pairs in an O or X arrangement opposite a second bearing. The open design allows for flexible lubrication via the surrounding housing using oil or grease.
The suffix ‘BEP’ denotes the design with a contact angle of 40 degrees and a polyamide cage. This contact angle facilitates the absorption of high axial forces. The polyamide cage is lightweight and ensures quiet running of the rolling elements. The design is specified for a temperature range of -20 to +120 degrees and for tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1.
The roller bearing has a bore of 85 mm for the shaft seat, an outer diameter of 150 mm and a width of 28 mm. The outer ring is smooth, with no flange or groove, which allows it to be fitted directly into cylindrical housing bores.
The contact angle describes the line of action of the force between the points of contact of the balls on the raceways relative to the radial plane. At an angle of 40 degrees, the bearing is designed primarily to accommodate high axial loads in one direction, together with radial forces.
The polyamide cage guides the rolling elements with low friction and is characterised by its low weight. These properties promote smooth running and reduce the inertial forces of the rolling elements. Furthermore, the material elastically absorbs mechanical shocks during operation.
The permissible operating range is between -20 and +120 degrees. The upper limit is determined by the polyamide cage and the thermal resistance of the standard rolling-element bearing steel 100Cr6. Lubricants used must retain their lubricating properties within this temperature range.
As this bearing is designed without sealing washers, lubrication is provided via the housing design using grease or lubricating oil. External housing seals are required to prevent the ingress of dirt particles and the leakage of the lubricant.
The component is manufactured to the standard tolerance class P0/PN, which corresponds to the ABEC 1 specification, and has standard radial clearance. In the case of single-row angular contact ball bearings, the actual operating clearance is only set during assembly by adjusting the bearing against a mating bearing.
